Muna Madan is a 2003 [1] Nepalese tragic romance film, directed by Gyanendra Deuja. The film is based on novel of the same name written by Laxmi Prasad Devkota. [2] The film is produced by Nabaraj Dhakal under the banner of N.B.A. Chalchitra. It stars Deepak Tripathi, and Usha Poudel in the lead roles alongside Subhadra Adhikari, Vijaya Lama, Mithila Sharma, Neer Shah, Dinesh D.C., and Shivahari Poudel. [3] The film was selected as the Nepalese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Academy Awards but it was not nominated. [4] [5]

Plot

The movie describes the life of a poor man (Madan) who leaves his wife (Muna) and goes to Lhasa to make money. Madan represents all the youths of Nepal who go abroad to earn money to earn their living. The wife of Madan, Muna is the queen of love and sacrifice. She loves her Madan a lot so she is upset as she has to send him to a place, Lhasa, where there are lots of obstacles and risks. But finally, she accepts this challenge and stays in the country with her mother-in-law who is old and weak.

While returning home, Madan becomes sick on the way. His friends leave him on the road and come back home saying he has died. Finally, he is rescued by a man who is considered to be of a lower caste in Nepal. That is why it is said that a man is said to be great not by caste or race but by a heart full of love and humanity. When Madan returns to Kathmandu after regaining his health, he discovers that his mother and his beloved wife had already died. Madan comes to realize that money is of no value at that point.

Usha Poudel is a Nepalese dancer and movie actress. Usha debuted in Nepali movie industry as an actress in Nepali movie "Karma". Her second movie "Muna Madan" made on a popular book titled Muna Madan, by Laxmi Prasad Devkota in 1999.

Dinesh Sharma is a Nepalese film actor, producer, director and television personality. He started his career with movie “Chatyang” in 1992. Since then he acted in both negative and positive roles. He is regarded as one of the greatest villains in Nepali film industry. He officially retired from film industry before leaving Nepal to settle in United States in late 2017. He currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

"Melancholy" is an environmentally-themed song sung by 365 Nepali artists. This song was intended to promote an environmental message by breaking the Guinness World Records for "Most Vocal Solos in a Song Recording", which it successfully did. It was written, music composed and directed by environmentalist Nipesh Dhaka. The song was recorded as a single on 19 May 2016. The recording sessions were inaugurated by Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli at 8 am and continued until 6 pm. The song was released on 2 September 2017 by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at Army Officer's Club, Kathmandu.

Basudev is a 1984 Nepali language film, adapted from Dhruba Chandra Gautam's Kattel Sarko Chotpatak by Neer Shah in his directorial debut. The film starred Harihar Sharma as the eponymous character, with Shakuntala Sharma, Subhadra Adhikari, Krishna Malla, Sharmila Malla and director Shah himself in supporting roles, while Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya were credited as guest actors. While the film was a critical and commercial success, it was criticised by some for its departure from the source material; Dhruba Chandra Gautam expressed disappointment at the film for being markedly different from the script he had written for the film. Subhadra Adhikari was a Nepali actress of film, stage and television. She was also a singer. In a career spanning six decades, she acted in more than a hundred feature films, and dozens of stage plays and television soap operas. Her debut film was Manko Bandh. Other notable films include Chino, Kanyadan, Basudev, Basanti, Muna Madan, Swarga, Saubhagya and Bato Muniko Phool, among others. She was awarded the Chalachitra Dhirgha Sadhana Samman by President Bidya Devi Bhandari for her work in film.
