The Municipality of Beverley was a local government area in Western Australia centred on the town of Beverley, in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia
It was established on 31 March 1892, separating the township of Beverley from the surrounding Beverley Road District. [1] The first election was held at the Beverley Court House on 6 July 1893. [2]
The council met at the Mechanics' Institute until it built a permanent council chambers in 1898, after which it operated out of the building for the remainder of its existence. The council chambers were deemed surplus to road board requirements after the municipality's abolition, and became the town's fire station before later becoming a doctor's surgery and then commercial offices. The council was responsible for the first street lighting in Beverley, with acetylene gas lighting generated through a small unit located at the back of the council chambers. [5] It opened municipal saleyards in 1908. [6]
Proposals for the amalgamation of the municipality back into the Beverley Road District began c. 1912. As a result of some public opposition to the proposal, a referendum was held on 12 March 1913, which overwhelmingly supported amalgamation. The municipality formally petitioned for its dissolution on 18 March 1913, and ceased to exist with its amalgamation into the road district on 4 April 1913. The municipal area became the new Central Ward of the reconstituted road district, represented by two councillors. [1] [7] [8] [9]
The City of Canterbury was a local government area in the Inner South-West region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The council area was within the northern part of the Parish of St George above Wolli Creek and The M5 but below The Cooks River. The city was primarily residential and light industrial in character, and was home to over 130 nationalities. With a majority of its residents being born overseas, the council marketed itself as the "City of Cultural Diversity." First incorporated as the Municipality of Canterbury in 1879, the council became known as the City of Canterbury in 1993.
Waverley Council is a Local government area in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. First incorporated on 16 June 1859 as the Municipality of Waverley, it is one of the oldest-surviving local government areas in New South Wales. Waverley is bounded by the Tasman Sea to the east, the Municipality of Woollahra to the north, and the City of Randwick in the south and west. The administrative centre of Waverley Council is located on Bondi Road in Bondi Junction in the Council Chambers on the corner of Waverley Park.
The Shire of Beverley is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia about 130 kilometres (80 mi) southeast of Perth, the state capital. The Shire covers an area of 2,372 square kilometres (916 sq mi), starting 20 kilometres (12 mi) outside Armadale in the Darling Scarp and extending eastwards beyond the scarp into agricultural lands which support broad acre activities such as livestock and cropping. Its seat of government is the town of Beverley, which accommodates just over half of the Shire's population.
The Municipality of Camperdown was a local government area of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The municipality was proclaimed in 1862 and, with an area of 1.6 square kilometres, covered the entire suburb of Camperdown, as well as small parts of Annandale, Newtown and Stanmore. The municipality unified in February 1870 with the Municipality of Cook, which had also been established in 1862 to the north. After years of financial difficulties, the Camperdown council was formally amalgamated with the City of Sydney on 22 December 1908.
The Municipality of Ermington and Rydalmere was a local government area in the Western region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Initially proclaimed as the southern part of the Borough of Dundas in 1889, following a petition of secession the municipality was proclaimed as the Municipal District of Ermington and Rydalmere on 18 June 1891. It included the modern suburbs of Rydalmere and parts of Dundas, Ermington and Melrose Park. From 1 January 1949, the council was amalgamated into the City of Parramatta, with the passing of the Local Government (Areas) Act 1948.
