Snehal Gaware, a resident of Dombivili, Thane, Maharashtra, in India, was murdered on 20 July 2007, [1] allegedly by her boyfriend. [2]

Murder

Gaware was studying at the Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Andheri. [3] She lived with her parents in Dombivili, at the Ninad Society where she had been recuperating from a leg injury in June 2007. [4] On 20 July 2007, she was missing from home when her mother returned. The following day, Gaware's body was found with her mouth gagged, and her hands and legs tied in the drawer of her bed. [5]

Aftermath

Gaware's boyfriend, was arrested and charged with her murder in April 2010. He had continued his education in the United States in the meantime. [4] Police dropped the charges the following year, citing a lack of evidence. [6] [7]

Neeraj Grover was a television executive working for Synergy Adlabs, a Mumbai based production house. He was found dead in May 2008, a crime for which actress Maria Susairaj and her boyfriend Lieutenant Emile Jerome Mathew were arrested. Mathew was eventually found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and for destroying evidence. Susairaj was acquitted of the killing itself, but found guilty of destroying evidence. The killing and subsequent trial received significant press coverage in India.

Adnan Patrawala was the teenage son of a businessperson from Mumbai, India. On 18 August 2007, Adnan was kidnapped for 2 crore (US$240,000) ransom. He was murdered the next day when news of the kidnapping broke on national TV and print media.

Wendy Albano was an American businesswoman murdered in 2012 in a hotel room in Bangkok. Authorities in the U.S. contacted the United States Department of State, leading to the arrest of a suspect hiding in India in 2014. The chief suspect was an Indian business associate who fled to India after her death. One of the key pieces of evidence that made him a suspect was their known business relationship and video surveillance from the hotel. Sheena Bora, an executive working for Mumbai Metro One based in Mumbai, went missing on 24 April 2012. In August 2015, Mumbai Police arrested her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, and her mother’s driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, for allegedly abducting and killing her and subsequently burning her corpse. In November 2015, her step father, Peter Mukerjea, was also arrested for his alleged part in the planning. Rai and Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna confessed to the crime, while Indrani Mukerjea claimed that Sheena Bora is living in the United States. She later admitted to the murder in a statement to police that is inadmissible in court, before going on to claim Sheena is alive and living in Kashmir.

Crystal Maria Rogers disappeared from her home in Bardstown, Kentucky, United States, on July 3, 2015. Her boyfriend at the time said she disappeared from their home overnight; her car was found on a nearby highway two days later. Rogers' family believes the boyfriend was involved in foul play; he was considered a suspect after he broke off an interview. Her family also believes the case is connected to the unsolved 2016 shooting death of Rogers' father while hunting.

The Payal Tadvi or Payal Salim Tadvi suicide case is an ongoing criminal case in the Maharashtra state of India. Payal allegedly committed suicide on May 22, 2019, after facing harassment by three of her seniors at Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Hospital. The Aligarh murder case involved the death of a two-year-old girl in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, India. She went missing on 30 May 2019, and her body was found three days later in a garbage dump. Police stated that the girl was abducted and killed in a form of revenge crime over a monetary dispute. The murder caused widespread outrage, which led to the spread of misinformation on social media as rumours were circulated.

In November 2019, the gang rape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad, near Hyderabad, sparked outrage across India. Her body was found in Shadnagar on 28 November 2019, the day after she was murdered. Four suspects were arrested and, according to the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police, confessed to having raped and killed the doctor.
