Musa Murtazaliev (born 26 May 1988) is an Armenian Freestyle wrestler of Avar descent. Although he is from Dagestan, Musa feels comfortable representing Armenia. [1]

Murtazaliev won a silver medal at the 2011 European Wrestling Championships. [2] He won another silver medal at the 2013 European Wrestling Championships. [3] Murtazaliev had moved up in weight from 74 kg to 84 kg. [4] Murtazaliev won a bronze medal at the 2014 European Wrestling Championships.

Wrestling has deep historical roots in Armenia. Wrestling was practiced in the Armenian Highlands since ancient times. Armenians have their own variant of the sport called Kokh. It was recorded that King Tiridates III of Armenia won the Ancient Olympic Games in wrestling in 281 AD. During the Soviet era, wrestling became one of the most practiced sports in Armenia and remained popular after Armenia's independence in 1991. Armenian athletes have been successful at international competitions in the last two decades. Many have become World and European champions, both in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. Over half of the fifteen Armenian Olympic medalists and the two gold medal winners have been wrestlers. The sport is overseen by the Wrestling Federation of Armenia.

Representing Slovakia since 2018, Salkazanov became the 2021 European Champion when he defeated two–time World Champion Frank Chamizo and 2020 Individual World Cup champion Razambek Zhamalov back to back. Prior, he claimed bronze medals from the 2019 World Championships at 79 kg and from the 2020 Individual World Cup at 74 kg and was also the 2018 U23 World Champion at 70 kg. Zelimkhan Abakarov is a Russian-born Albanian wrestler of Chechen origin. He is a gold medalist at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships. He is the first wrestler representing Albania to win a gold medal at the World Wrestling Championships. He is also a gold medalist at the 2022 Mediterranean Games and a silver medalist at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games.
