Mwasiti Almas Yusuph (born February 2, 1986) popularly known as Mwasiti, is a singer and songwriter of Afropop, Zouk and Bongo Flava music from Tanzania. She is best known for her single "Nalivua Pendo," which was number one on the Tanzania radio charts for eight consecutive weeks and won "Best Zouk Song" at the 2009 Tanzania Music Awards.

Early life and career

Mwasiti started her music career in 2006 after joining Tanzania House of Talent. [1] She released her first single titled Nambie in 2006, which was nominated twice at the Tanzania Music Awards as Best newcomer artist and nominated for Best zouk song. [2] In 2014 she performed in New York City at the Malaria No More Benefit Concert, organized by Malaria No More. [3] [4]

In year 2006, she was nominated ‘Best Upcoming Female Artist’ at the Tanzania Music awards. Her single "Nalivua Pendo" holds the record for staying number one on the radio charts for eight consecutive weeks, and stayed on the charts for the next 30 weeks. [5] It then won "Best Zouk Song" at the 2009 Tanzania Music Awards. [6] [5] At the 2013 Tanzania Music Awards, Mwasiti become the first female artist to receive five nominations. [7] [8] [9] She has said her songs have been inspired by aspects of her own life. [10] She believes it's important for Tanzanian artists to remember their roots. [11] She is a civil rights activist for causes such as malaria and helping refugees. [3] [12]

The 12th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday March 26, 2011. Bongo Flava artist 20 Percent was the big winner of the night with five trophies out of seven nominations. The artist himself was not present and he was represented by his producer Man Water. Winner Lady Jaydee was also absent during the Award ceremony and a fan collected the two awards on her behalf. The artist later stated she had not received an invitation for the event. Singer Diamond, who won three awards in the 2010 Tanzania Music Awards and was nominated in four categories, was among those who left empty-handed.

The 11th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam, on Friday 14 May 2010. The event was anchored by Jokate Mwegelo. Bongo Flava singer Diamond was the big winner of the night with three awards out of four nominations, which is a remarkable result for a newcomer.

Edward John Kumwembe famously known as Edo Kumwembe is a Tanzanian journalist, sports writer and a football commentator at Wasafi Media. He is a pundit for SuperSport TV in South Africa doing football commentary in Swahili language since August 2016. He doubles as a host for a sports talk show on Wasafi FM and a sports columnist for Mwanaspoti a Swahili sports newspaper published by Mwananchi Communications Limited in Tanzania.

Tatu Mussa Ntimizi is a former Member of Parliament in the Tanzanian National Assembly who represented the constituency of Igalula in the Uyui District of the Tabora Region. She is a member of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi revolutionary party.

Omary Ally Mwanga, known professionally as Marioo, is a Tanzanian singer, songwriter, poet, and music producer. He was born in Temeke, Dar es Salaam and later on he was moved to Kibiti District to live with his grandmother. Omary now lives in Dar es Salaam where he writes, performs, and releases primarily bongo flava and kiswahili amapiano music. In 2022, Omary won 3 Tanzanian Music Awards from 7 nominations.
