Myloplus sauron is a species of fish that is in the family Serrasalmidae. The fish was discovered alongside Myloplus aylan . [1] The species of fish is restricted to the Xingu River. [2] [3]
The fish is named after Sauron, the main antagonist of the fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings . [2] The naming of the fish is due to the vertical black band on the fish resembling the vertical-pupilled eye of Sauron. [4] [5]
