Myqerem Tafaj (born November 14,1957) is an Albanian politician and university professor. He is a member of the Democratic Party of Albania and served as Minister of Education and Sciences in the cabinet of Sali Berisha. He was also Deputy Prime Minister from 4 April 2013 to 14 September 2013.
Myqerem Tafaj was born in Bulqizë,Albania,on November 14,1957. In the late 1970s,he moved to Tirana,where he began agriculture studies at the Agricultural University of Tirana. In 1988,Tafaj received his doctoral degree from the same university. Shortly after his graduation,in 1990,Tafaj was awarded a one-year fellowship from the German Foundation for International Development,which gave him the possibility to continue his research in Germany. Between 1992 and 1995,Tafaj completed his second PhD at the University of Hohenheim.
After he returned to Albania,in 1996,Tafaj became director of sciences at the Ministry of Education of Albania. On 12 March 1997,Tafaj was named the Minister of Education in President Sali Berisha's placeholder government. [1] Tafaj was appointed Education Minister at the height of the country's 1997 political unrest,which had a disastrous effect on Albania's higher education system. Rioting and looting on the campuses of the University of Tirana and the Agricultural University of Tirana resulted in millions of dollars in damage. [2] The universities were closed from March to May, [2] and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln suspended its program in Tirana. [3] During the closures,over four hundred squatters took residence in the dormitories on the campuses. [2] Tafaj served as Minister until June,when elections were held. In 1999,Tafaj was awarded a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation,which allowed him to return to Germany and work as a visiting professor at the University of Hohenheim. Eventually,in 2005,he returned to Albania to work as a professor at the Agricultural University of Tirana and as a councilor for the Ministry of Education and Sciences. In 2009,Tafaj was appointed as Minister of Education in the cabinet of Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Sali Ram Berisha is an Albanian cardiologist and conservative politician who served as the president of Albania from 1992 to 1997 and 32nd prime minister from 2005 to 2013. Berisha serves as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania since 2022 and has held the position previously from 1990 to 2013. He also serves as the incumbent Leader of Opposition in the Albanian parliament.

Most prominently he was foreign minister from 2003 to 2005,but lost his position in the cabinet when a new government was formed with Berisha as prime minister after the 2005 elections. He returned to Democratic Party on 7 May 2013 after he left the Socialist Party in March.

Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës,also Aleksandër Moisiu University or University of Durrës,is the newest public academic institution of the Republic of Albania. The University is located in the ancient city of Durrës. The university was founded on 20 December 2005 by the Albanian Government. It was inaugurated in 2006 and is using the American system of education,unlike the rest of the public universities in the country. More than 1,300 students started classes as of 2 October 2006. University of Durrës took its name from Austrian-Italian actor Aleksandër Moisiu,who was of Albanian descent. The rector is Kseanela Sotirofski.

March 1991 elections left the Party of Labour in power,but a general strike and urban opposition led to the formation of a "stability government" that included non-communists. The 2011 Albanian opposition demonstrations were a series of anti-government protests in cities around Albania following 18 months of political conflict over alleged electoral fraud by the opposition. A video surfaced which portrayed the deputy prime minister arranging a corrupt deal with the minister of economy. The public outcry over the video resulted in the resignation of the deputy prime minister. A demonstration was called by parliamentary opposition parties,which include the Socialist Party and the Unity for Human Rights Party. These were called on 21 January in order to protest the alleged corruption of the Albanian government as well as widespread unemployment and poverty in the country.
The Fino Government better known as the Government of National Reconciliation was a caretaker government that presided over Albania from 13 March 1997 to 24 July 1997,during the Albanian Civil War. It was created as a result of the social,economic,and political turmoil of early 1997,spurred by the collapse of pyramid schemes and the subsequent loss of many Albanians' life savings. This government was formed in the week following the resignation of the government of Aleksandër Meksi on 1 March 1997 by the major political parties of the country with international support. The Government was voted in the morning session at 10:00 a.m. on 12 March 1997,while received the approval of the President Sali Berisha shortly before midnight on the same day.
