County Galway is a county in Ireland. It is in the Northern and Western Region, taking up the south of the province of Connacht. The county population was 276,451 at the 2022 census.
Tuam is a town in Ireland and the second-largest settlement in County Galway. It is west of the midlands of Ireland, about 35 km (22 mi) north of Galway city. Humans have lived in the area since the Bronze Age while the historic period dates from the sixth century. The town became increasingly important in the 11th and 12th centuries in political and religious aspects of Ireland. The College, which operates under patronage of the Archbishop of Tuam, is named after Jarlath, or Iarlaith, who founded a monastery in the town when, as legend has it, his chariot wheel broke. Jarlath "Ja" Fallon is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Tuam Stars club and at senior level for the Galway county team. He is regarded as one of the finest players to come from Tuam since Seán Purcell and Frank Stockwell. He was an integral part of the Galway county football team from 1995 to 2005, winning All Stars footballer of the year in 1998.

Moycullen GAA is a group title for several Gaelic Athletic Association clubs based in Moycullen, County Galway. The three clubs, Cumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn, Cumann Iománaíocht Maigh Cuilinn and Cumann Camógaíocht Mhaigh Cuilinn share playing facilities and cooperate on a number of the local community and sporting issues. The clubs are members of the Galway GAA. Catherine Corless is an Irish historian, known for her work in compiling the information concerning the deaths of children at the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, Galway. After gaining an interest in local history from attending an evening course, Corless decided to write an article about the mother and baby home inspired by her own childhood memories of the institution. She spent her spare time searching records in libraries, churches and council offices, and uncovered that 796 children died in the home. She found death certificates but identified that there were no burial records. The bodies were eventually found to have been disposed of in a disused septic tank on the property. She has received a number of awards in recognition of her work, including a People of the Year Award in 2018. Following the 2020 government report on deaths and abuses at Mother and Baby homes, the Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin called Corless a “tireless crusader of dignity and truth”.
The Dublin–Galway rivalry is a Gaelic football rivalry between Irish county teams Dublin and Galway, who first played each other in 1902. Dublin's home ground is Parnell Park and Galway's home ground is Pearse Stadium, however, all of their championship meetings have been held at neutral venues, usually Croke Park.
