N. DevassiaAppachan(N.D Appachan) is an Indian National Congress politician from Kerala,India. He represented Sulthan Bathery Assembly constituency in 11th Kerala Legislative Assembly.
N. D. Appachan was born on May 2,1949,to N. J. Devassia and Annamma. [1] He lives in Kakkavayal,Wayanad district. [1] He and his wife Tressia have 3 children. [1]
Appachan,who was the first elected District Congress Committee (DCC) President of Wayanad District in 1991,served as the DCC President and Wayanad District UDF Chairman till 2004. [2] In 2021 he was re-elected DCC President. [2]
He was elected to the 11th Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2001. [1] He represented Sulthan Bathery Assembly constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate. [1] He was resigned from the post on July 5,2005. [1]
In 2022,a complaint was filed against Appachan by a tribal woman who was Youth Congress Mananthavady Constituency secretary alleging that she was abused by him for her caste and gender. [3] But the Adivasi Congress Mananthavady constituency committee said the allegations are baseless. [4]
Wayanad,is an Indian district in the north-east of Kerala state with administrative headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is the only plateau in Kerala. The Wayanad Plateau forms a continuation of the Mysore Plateau,the southern portion of Deccan Plateau. It is set high in the Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 meters. Wayanad has three municipal towns—Kalpetta,Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery. There are many indigenous tribes in this area. The Kabini River,a tributary of Kaveri River,originates at Wayanad. Wayanad district,along with the Chaliyar valley in neighbouring Nilambur in Malappuram district,is known for natural gold fields,which are also seen in other parts of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Chaliyar river,which is the fourth longest river of Kerala,originates on the Wayanad plateau. The historically important Edakkal Caves are located in Wayanad district.

The district capital of Wayanad is Kalpetta town. Kalpetta has very good road connectivity with the rest of Kerala and neighboring South Indian cities.
