Naan Potta Savaal (transl. The challenge I laid) is 1980 Indian Tamil-language Western film [1] directed by Puratchidasan. The film stars Rajinikanth and Reena, with M. R. Radha and M. R. R. Vasu in supporting roles. This is the first film in which the screen credits carried the title "Super Star" for Rajinikanth. [2] [3] It was also the last film of Radha. [4] The film did not do well at the box office. It was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Idhe Naa Savaal, with a slightly different cast. [5]

Veera (transl. Valour) is a 1994 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by Suresh Krissna and written by Panchu Arunachalam. It is a remake of the Telugu film Allari Mogudu (1992) and stars Rajinikanth, Meena and Roja with Janagaraj, Senthil, Vadivukkarasi, J. Livingston, Mahesh Anand, Vinu Chakravarthy, Ajay Rathnam, Vivek and Charuhasan in supporting roles. The film is about a man who marries twice because of circumstances beyond his control and is forced to live a double life to cover his tracks.
Mappillai (transl. Son-in-law) is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language masala film directed by Rajasekhar, starring Rajinikanth, Srividya and Amala. It is a remake of the 1989 Telugu film Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, the Tamil version was produced by Geetha Arts, and Chiranjeevi who played the lead role in the original Telugu version made a special appearance in this film. The film was released on 28 October 1989, and ran for 200+ days and became a blockbuster. The film was again remade in Tamil with the same title in 2011.
Guru Sishyan is a 1988 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film directed by S. P. Muthuraman. A remake of the Hindi film Insaf Ki Pukar (1987), it stars Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Seetha and Gautami with Pandiyan, Cho Ramaswamy, Ravichandran, Radha Ravi, Senthamarai, Vinu Chakravarthy and Manorama in supporting roles. The film is about two ex-convicts who set out to prove the innocence of their wrongfully imprisoned fellow convict.
Velaikkaran is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language masala film directed by S. P. Muthuraman, starring Rajinikanth, Sarath Babu, Amala and Pallavi. It is a remake of the 1982 Hindi film Namak Halaal. The film was released on 7 March 1987 and became a box office success.
Naan Adimai Illai is a 1986 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film produced and directed by Dwarakish. The film stars Rajinikanth and Sridevi. A remake of the Hindi film Pyar Jhukta Nahin (1985), this was the last Tamil film for Sridevi in 1980s who then concentrated on her Bollywood career, though she would later return to Tamil cinema in the 2010s. Muthu is the soundtrack album composed by A. R. Rahman for the 1995 Tamil-language film of the same name starring Rajinikanth and directed by K. S. Ravikumar. It is the first film where Rahman, Rajinikanth and Ravikumar worked together. The album have six tracks in each with lyrics with lyrics by Vairamuthu. The Hindi version is titled Muthu Maharaja and had lyrics penned by P. K. Mishra, whereas the Telugu version of Muthu is penned by Bhuvana Chandra. Recording of the songs took place at the composer's Panchathan Record Inn studio in Chennai. The soundtrack was released on 8 October 1995 under the Pyramid label. The Telugu version of the soundtrack was released under Aditya Music and Saregama distributed the Hindi soundtrack.
Thalapathi is the soundtrack album composed by Ilaiyaraaja, with lyrics written by Vaali, for 1991 Indian Tamil-language film of the same name which was written and directed by Mani Ratnam, and produced by G. Venkateswaran. The film stars Rajinikanth and Mammootty with Arvind Swamy in his feature-film debut. It was the last collaboration between Ilaiyaraaja, Vaali and Ratnam as the latter had associated with A. R. Rahman and Vairamuthu for all of his projects, beginning with Roja (1992), which marked Rahman's debut.
