Nagesh Kapoor is a senior air officer of the Indian Air Force, currently serving as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Training Command since May 1, 2024. [1]

Early life and education

Kapoor is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College, and the National Defence College. His comprehensive military education has been instrumental in his professional development within the IAF. [2]

Military career

Commissioned into the Fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on 6 December 1986, Kapoor has accumulated over 3,400 hours of flying experience. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and a Fighter Combat Leader, reflecting his expertise in aerial combat and training. Throughout his career, he has held numerous significant positions, including:

Operational roles

- Commanding Officer of a fighter squadron in the Central Sector - Station Commander of a flying base in the Western Sector - Air Officer Commanding of a premier air base

Instructional roles

- Chief Instructor (Flying) at the Air Force Academy - Directing Staff at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington

During his tenure at the Air Force Academy, he played a pivotal role in the induction and operationalization of the PC-7 MK II aircraft into the IAF's training curriculum. Additionally, he has served as the Defence Attaché in Pakistan, contributing to India's military diplomacy. [3]

Kapoor has participated in several significant events, including visiting Sainik School, Vijayapura, to inspire cadets and review military training. [6]

He presided over the Triple Jubilee celebration at Air Force Station Jalahalli, highlighting its excellence in military training. [7]

Additionally, he attended the Combined Graduation Parade at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, motivating young officers. [8]

On 6 October 2024, Air Marshal Kapoor oversaw full dress rehearsals at Chennai's Marina Beach for the 92nd Air Force Day. The event featured 72 aircraft, including the Rafale, Tejas, Sukhoi 30 MKI, Sarang helicopter display team, and Surya Kiran aerobatics team. [9]

He graced the 9th Veterans Day function at Air Force Station Jalahalli on 14 January 2025, where he lauded the contributions of veterans and highlighted the IAF's ongoing modernization efforts. [10]

During his visit to the Air Force Administrative College (AFAC) in Coimbatore, Air Marshal Kapoor emphasized the importance of training innovations to meet modern challenges. [11]

In July 2024, he inaugurated a Weapon System School aimed at addressing the evolving challenges of air warfare. [12]
