Nairobi United won the Kenyan National Super League title [2] in June 2025 to earn promotion to the 2025-26 Premier League, [3] and made it a double when they beat record Kenyan league champions Gor Mahia to win the FKF Cup [4] to qualify for the prestigious 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup qualifying rounds. And on their first time of asking, they made it to the group stages of the continental showpiece after taking down Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel on penalties. [5]

First appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage

Nairobi United FC made history by qualifying for the group stage of the 2025–26 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, marking the club’s first appearance at this level of the competition.

The Kenyan National Super League title winner side advanced after defeating Tunisia’s Étoile Sportive du Sahel 7–6 on penalties. The Tunisian club had won the return leg 2–0 to level the tie 2–2 on aggregate. [6]

Étoile’s goals came from Rayan Anen and substitute Ben Maazouz, forcing the match into a penalty shootout. Nairobi United goalkeeper Kevin Oduor became the hero after saving the hosts’ seventh penalty before scoring the decisive kick himself.

Nairobi United will join Azam FC and Singida Black Stars FC of Tanzania in the group stage. In the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup, Nairobi United lost their first group matches. Goalkeeper Kevin Oduor stated that lack of composure and confidence had been a major issue in the early fixtures.[ citation needed ] Other teams that have qualified include Zamalek FC, Wydad AC, USM Alger, CR Belouizdad, Djoliba FC, San Pedro, Al Masry, Zesco United FC, Maniema Union FC, AS Otoho, and Kaizer Chiefs FC.
