The Naknek Formation is a Mesozoic geological formation. [1] Plesiosaur remains are among the fossils that have been recovered from its strata. [2]
The Naknek Formation records Late Jurassic forearc basin sedimentation and crops out discontinuously along an ~1000 km trend in southern Alaska.
A fragmentary humerus of the pliosaurid Megalneusaurus, from the Upper Jurassic Naknek Formation of the Alaska Peninsula, represents the only plesiosaurian known from Alaska and only the second Jurassic pliosauroid occurrence reported from the modern Arctic region.
