Namatanai Airport( IATA : ATN, ICAO : AYNX) is an airfield serving Namatanai, in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea. [1]

Namatanai is a town on the island province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. It is the second largest settlement on the island and connected to the largest and provincial capital of Kavieng by the Boluminski Highway. In 2005, Namantanai was estimated to have a population of 1300 people. It is the seat of Namatanai Rural LLG.
The Boluminski Highway is the main land transportation route on the island of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. It runs from the provincial capital of Kavieng for 193 km down the east coast of the island to Namatanai and beyond. The whole highway from Kavieng to Namatanai will be sealed by the end of 2018.

Tangga is an Oceanic language of New Ireland, spoken on Tanga and Feni islands and in Sena, Muliama and Varangansau villages in the Tanglamet area of Namatanai of New Ireland itself. These three locations are highly divergent; children from one understand little to nothing of the others, and adults consider them to be distinct languages, though they recognize their common history of their migration from Tanga and Feni to New Ireland.

Walter David Schnaubelt of New Ireland, Chinese and Austrian parentage is the Member of Parliament for the Namatanai Open Electorate in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea. He is a member and current National President of the National Alliance Party. He defeated his first cousin Byron Chan by a landslide victory collecting 20,479 votes to Byron's 12,804 to claim the Namatanai Open Seat. He won gold in Karate at the Pacific Games in 1999 in Guam. Join the coalition government led by James Marape and Steven Davis in August 2019.
Namatanai Open Seat is an Electorate in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea. The Member of Parliament representing this seat is Walter Schnaubelt. Former Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Sir Julius Chan represented this electorate from 1968 to 1997. Ephraim Apelis became the second Member for Namatanai from 1997 to 2002. Byron Chan became Member for Namatanai in 2002-2017 until his subsequent defeat to his cousin Walter Schnaubelt in the 2017 National Elections.
