The Namibia Command and Staff College is an academic tri service college of the Namibian Defence Force. The college offers officers staff training and education.
Recognizing the need for advanced academic training for its officers as it depended on friendly nations such as Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana, [1] the Ministry of Defence established the College and was launched by the minister of Defence Charles Namoloh on 10 August 2009. [2] Construction of the Okahandja campus commenced, which was financially aided by China and the project was completed in 2016. [3] The campus was then inaugurated by President Hage Geingob on 17 October 2019. Since inception more than 13 Junior Staff Courses have been conducted graduating over 204 officers. [1]
Junior Division
This course is offered to junior officers and the course curriculum is set up into two terms, the first terms focuses on history and Namibian heritage, organization, the role of the Namibian Defence Force, staff duties, logistics, command and control, leadership, geo political studies, law of armed conflict [5] and Industrial visits. [6] The second terms focuses on conventional warfare, low intensity operations, peace support operations and training. [5] The Course is recognized by the Namibia Qualifications Authority as a Diploma in Military Science NQF level 6. [7]
Senior Division
Its curriculum covers leadership, accountability, responsibilities, [8] staff appointments, regimental, force employment up to division level [9] and industrial visits. [10] As a prerequisite to graduate student officers will write a research paper. [9] The 1st Senior Command and Staff Course was launched in 2019 [3] and graduated in September 2020. Graduates of the Course are given symbol Pass Staff Course 'psc', only officers from the ranks of major/ equivalent, Lieutenant Colonel/equivalent and Colonel/equivalent across all service arms are eligible for this course.

The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) comprises the national military forces of Namibia. It was created when the country, then known as South West Africa, gained independence from South Africa in 1990. Chapter 15 of the Constitution of Namibia establishes the NDF and defines its role and purpose as, " ... to defend the territory and national interests of Namibia".
Staff colleges train military officers in the administrative, military staff and policy aspects of their profession. It is usual for such training to occur at several levels in a career. For example, an officer may be sent to various staff courses: as a captain they may be sent to a single service command and staff school to prepare for company command and equivalent staff posts; as a major to a single or joint service college to prepare for battalion command and equivalent staff posts; and as a colonel or brigadier to a higher staff college to prepare for brigade and division command and equivalent postings.
The Namibian Air Force is the aerial warfare branch of the Namibian Defence Force. It was commissioned on 13 March 2005 at Grootfontein Air Force Base. Following the independence of Namibia from South Africa in 1990, the Air defense wing of the defense forces were established on 23 July 1994. The Air Force headquarters is based at Karibib Air Force Base. The policy, mission statements and concept of operations envisage the development of an Air Force to operate in support of the Army and the Navy.
The Republic of Namibia has an honours system comprising orders, medals, military decorations, and police decorations. Legislation also provides for the establishment of decorations and medals for the intelligence service, the prisons service, and the fire services.
Lieutenant General John Sinvula Mutwa was a Namibian military officer whose last appointment was as chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). He was appointed the commander of the Namibian Army in 2011, and NDF Chief on 31 December 2013, a position from which he retired on 31 March 2020.
The Namibian Military School is a training unit of the Namibian Defence Force. It is the premier training institution of the Namibian military and offers a variety of training ranging from basic military training to mechanical training
Peter Hafeni Vilho is a Namibian politician and retired rear admiral who is a member of the Parliament of Namibia, a former Minister of Defence, and a former commander of the Namibian Navy. He was appointed the commander of the maritime wing of the Namibian Defence Force in 2002. In September 2017 he was appointed as executive director of the Ministry of Defence. In March 2020, Namibian president Hage Geingob appointed Vilho as the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs. Vilho served until his resignation in April 2021 after allegations of holding an undeclared bank account.
Rear Admiral Sinsy Ndeshi Bamba Nghipandua is a retired Namibian military officer whose last appointment served was as the Commander of the Namibian Navy. He was appointed the Commander of the Namibian Navy in 2017. Prior to that he served as Commander of Naval Operations(CNO) with the rank of Rear Admiral(JG).
26 Motorised Infantry Brigade(pronounced as Two Six Motorised Infantry Brigade) is a brigade of the Namibian Army based at Grootfontein. The prefix "26" is taken from 26 August 1966, the day on which SWAPO guerrillas first encountered the South African security forces at Ongulumbashe. The brigade is responsible for defence of the Northern areas of Namibia. Its subordinate units are situated in Zambezi, Kavango, Omusati, Kunene and Oshana regions.
The Chief of the Defence Force (CDF) is the professional head of the Namibian Defence Force. He is responsible for the administration and the operational control of the Namibian military. The position was established after Namibia became independent in 1990. The current chief is Air Marshal Martin Pinehas, he succeeded Lieutenant general John Mutwa.
21 Motorised Infantry Brigade(pronounced as Two One Motorised Infantry Brigade) is a brigade of the Namibian Army based at Suiderhof, Windhoek. The prefix "21" is taken from 21 March 1990, Namibia's independence day. The brigade is responsible for the defence of the central areas of Namibia. Its subordinate units are situated in the Khomas. Apart from its Motorised battalions it also consists of a Mechanized Infantry Battalion. It also provides a ceremonial guard battalion for the Head of State.
Major General Matheus Alueendo is a Namibian military officer who is the current commander of the Namibian Army (NA). He was appointed the commander of the Namibian Army on 31 July 2019.
Major General Ben Uuyamba Kadhila is a retired Namibian military officer whose last appointment was as Chief Joint Operations of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). He served as the first Commander of the Namibian Special Forces, he retired in July 2018.
