Nanda Periyasamy (born 1975) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor who has worked in Tamil cinema.

Career

In 2002, Nanda Periyasamy was given the opportunity to direct a police thriller film titled Mahaa with Ajith Kumar, Sneha and Kiran Rathod in the lead roles. However, the project was shelved due to an accident suffered by Ajith. His first film, Oru Kalluriyin Kathai (2005) received average reviews [1] and a lukewarm response at the box office.

Periyasamy then briefly worked on the pre-production of a film titled Ardhanari, which was later shelved. [2]

In his second film, Maathi Yosi, he tackled sensitive issues like untouchability and casteism, and featured a predominantly new cast. The film received mixed reviews. [3] During a period of time, he also took on acting roles, notably appearing in Mayandi Kudumbathar (2009) alongside nine other directors. He returned to directing in 2013 with Azhagan Azhagi, before making the romantic comedy Vanna Jigina in 2015. [4]

Nanda Periyasamy was seen playing villain roles in the movies Sandakozhi 2 and Market Raja MBBS . Meanwhile, he emerged as the story writer of the Hindi movie Rashmi Rocket (2020), [5] starring Tapsee Pannu and directed by Akarsh Khurana. He directed Anandham Vilayadum Veedu , [6] which released in 2021.

It stars Arya and Sonia Agarwal alongside an ensemble supporting cast including Jaivarma, Santhanam, and Charuhasan. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja with editing by Kola Bhaskar and cinematography by R. Madhi. The film released in 2005 and was deemed a success upon its release.

Sujatha was an Indian actress who performed and starred in a variety of unique characters in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films- in addition to few in Kannada and Hindi languages as well. The actress was best known for restraint and subtlety in portrayal of varied emotions. After starring in numerous Malayalam films in her mother-tongue, Sujatha later got introduced to the Tamil film industry by veteran director K. Balachander and producer P.R. Govindarajan as a protagonist in her first Tamil film, Aval Oru Thodar Kathai (1974). It was a critically acclaimed film and launched the actress's first commecrical breakthrough in her acting career. Whereas, her first Telugu picture happened to be a Telugu/Tamil bilingual titled as Guppedu Manasu (1979) in Telugu and was simultaneously shot as Nool Veli in Tamil of the same year. She died of a cardiac arrest on 6 April 2011 in Chennai.

This following is the list of films to which K. Balachander has contributed. He has written and directed nearly 80 films and has worked in more than 100 films either as director or writer in predominantly Tamil-language films. He has directed some Telugu films while his Hindi and Kannada films were remakes of his Tamil films. He has produced one Malayalam film.

Maathi Yosi is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Nandha Periyasamy and produced by P. S. Sekar Reddy. The film stars Harish, Kanchivaram fame Shammu, and newcomers Gopal, Alex and Lokesh in the lead roles, while Ponvannan, Ravi Mariya, and G. M. Kumar play supporting roles. The music was composed by Guru Kalyan with cinematography by Vijay Armstrong and editing by Kola Bhaskar. The film released on 12 March 2010 and received mixed to negative reviews.

Anandhapurathu Veedu is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language supernatural mystery film co written and directed by Tamil television director Naga, who has directed serials like Marmadesam, Vidathu Karuppu and Chidambara Rahasiyam. This film, Naga's feature film debut, stars Nandha and Chaya Singh in lead roles along with child artist Aryan, making his debut. Written by Naga, Sharath Haridasan and Indra Soundar Rajan and produced by director S. Shankar's S Pictures, Anandhapurathu Veedu was released on 9 July 2010 to positive reviews.

<i>Thalaimuraigal</i> 2013 Indian film

Thalaimuraigal (transl. Generations) is a 2013 Tamil-language film written, cinematography, edited, and directed by Balu Mahendra in his last directorial film. Produced by Sasikumar's Company Productions and Balu Mahendra's Cinema Pattarai, the film has Master Karthik and Balu Mahendra, while Sashikumar Subramani, Ramya Shankar, and Vinodhini Vaidyanathan appear in supporting roles and Sasikumar in a cameo appearance. The film's score was composed by Ilaiyaraaja, and the film released on 20 December 2013. At the 61st National Film Awards, the film won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration.

Rasu Madhuravan was a Tamil film director known for family dramas. He began his career as an assistant director to Manivannan, and made his directorial debut with Poomagal Oorvalam. He died on 9 July 2013 from throat cancer.

Vanna Jigina is a 2015 Tamil comedy film, written and directed by Nandha Periyasamy. The film stars Vijay Vasanth and Sanyathara in the lead roles while Singampuli, Ravi Mariya and Ashwin Raja among others form an ensemble cast. Music for the film was composed by John Peter and the film opened to mixed reviews in August 2015.

Anandham Vilayadum Veedu is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by Nandha Periyasamy and produced by Sri Vaari Film. The film stars Gautham Karthik, Cheran and Shivathmika Rajasekhar with a supporting cast including Saravanan, Vignesh, Daniel Balaji, Rajendran and Soundararaja. The film was released in theatres on 24 December 2021.

Shivathmika Rajashekar is an Indian actress who appears in Telugu and Tamil films. She is a recipient of the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut for Dorasaani. She is the daughter of actors Rajasekhar and Jeevitha.
