Yaoundé is the capital of Cameroon and, with a population of more than 2.8 million, the second-largest city in the country after the port city Douala. It lies in the Centre Region of the nation at an elevation of about 750 metres (2,500 ft) above sea level.
The South Region is located in the southwestern and south-central portion of the Republic of Cameroon. Obala is a town in Cameroon's Centre Province, ca 45 km north of Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon.
Edéa is a city located along the Sanaga River in Cameroon's Littoral Region. It lies on the Douala–Yaoundé–Ngaoundéré railway line. Its population was estimated at 122,300 in 2001. There are bauxite facilities, aluminium processing facility, steel processing facility, timber facilities, paper facilities. These are primarily powered by the Edea Hydroelectric Power Station. Bananas, oil palm, and cacao are farmed nearby.
Ngaoundéré, or N'Gaoundéré is the capital of the Adamawa Region of Cameroon. It had a population of 152,700 at the 2005 census. The Grand Eweng Hydroelectric Power Station, also Grand Eweng Power Station, is a planned approximately 1,800 megawatt hydroelectric power project across the Sanaga River to be constructed in Cameroon. The Grand Eweng power station is expected to be the largest hydroelectric energy source in Cameroon. The Grand Eweng project is under development by Hydromine from the United States on behalf of the Government of Cameroon on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) concession basis.
The Mbakaou Power Station is an operational 1.48 megawatts (1,980 hp) mini hydroelectric power station in Cameroon. Commercially commissioned in December 2021, the renewable energy project was jointly developed by the Government of Cameroon, in collaboration with IED Invest, an independent power producer (IPP) based in France, and Eneo Cameroon S.A., the Cameroonian national electric distribution parastatal company. The power generated at this power plant, amounting to 11.2 GWh annually, is sold to Eneo Cameroon, under a 20-year power purchase agreement, and is distributed to an estimated 40,000 people in the Adamawa Province of Cameroon.
The Kikot Hydroelectric Power Station (KHPS), is a planned 500 megawatt run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station under development in Cameroon across the Sanaga River. The development rights were granted to Kikot Hydro Power Company (KHPC), a special purpose vehicle company (SPV), owned by Électricité de France and the Government of Cameroon. A long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) is yet to be signed between Eneo Cameroon S.A. and KHPC.
