Natan Bernot (11 April 1931 – 22 August 2018) [1] was a Slovenian mechanical engineer, energy engineering and energy development specialist and a former Yugoslav slalom canoeist from Slovenia who competed from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s. With his brother Dare, he won a silver medal in the C-2 event at the 1963 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal.
In his professional work Natan Bernot favoured a complex approach to the world's energy issues. A new area of study, the energiology should address the complex links between energy development, technology and social issues, especially labour and education. Energiology is expected to provide new insight and guidance for policies in the relevant areas.
Michal Martikán is a Slovak slalom canoeist who has been competing at the international level since 1994. In 1996 he became the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal for Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993. In total he won 5 Olympic medals, which is the most among all slalom paddlers. He has also won the World Championship title in the C1 individual category four times.
Andraž Vehovar is a Yugoslav born, Slovenian slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1988 to 1999.
Tony Estanguet is a French slalom canoeist and a three-time Olympic champion in C1. He competed at the international level from 1994 to 2012.
Peter Kauzer is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 1999.
Fabien Lefèvre is a French slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 1998. As a permanent resident of the United States, he has competed for his country of residence since 2013. He represented France until 2011. He won two medals at the Summer Olympics in the K1 event with a silver in 2008 and a bronze in 2004. He has a son called Noe Lefèvre.
The ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships are an international event in canoeing organized by the International Canoe Federation. The World Championships have taken place every year in non-Summer Olympic years since 2002. From 1949 to 1999, they had taken place in odd-numbered years. The 2001 championships were scheduled to take place in Ducktown, Tennessee from 20 to 23 September, but were canceled in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
The 2009 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held on 9–13 September 2009 at Parc Olímpic del Segre in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain under the auspices of International Canoe Federation. It was the 32nd edition. La Seu d'Urgell hosted the event previously in 1999. A demonstration event for women's single canoe (C1W) took place that was swept by Australia. Slovakia was the top medal winner with six, including three golds. Germany and Great Britain each won four medals with a gold medal each. Host nation Spain won their first medals ever at the championships with four.
Boštjan Žitnik is a Yugoslav-born, Slovenian slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1986 to 1995.
Simon Hočevar is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1990 to 2012.
Dare Bernot was a Yugoslav slalom canoeist who competed from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. He won a silver medal in the C-2 event at the 1963 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal, racing with his brother Natan Bernot.
Milan Zadel was a Yugoslav slalom canoeist who competed in the mid-to-late 1950s. He won a bronze medal in the folding K-1 event at the 1953 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Meran. Zadel was born in Ljubljana on 16 April 1930, and died on 7 September 2018, at the age of 88.
Jernej Abramič is a Yugoslav-born, Slovenian slalom canoer who competed from the early 1980s to the late 1990s. He won five medals for Yugoslavia at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold, two silvers and two bronzes.
Marjan Štrukelj is a Yugoslav-born, Slovenian slalom canoeist who competed from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. He won six medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold, three silvers and two bronzes.
Dejan Kralj is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1992 to 2012.
Alenka Bernot is a former slalom canoeist who competed for Yugoslavia in the early-to-mid 1960s. She won a gold medal in the mixed C-2 event at the 1963 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal.
Denis Gargaud Chanut is a French slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level in C1 since 2004. Between 2009 and 2011 he also competed in the C2 category alongside Fabien Lefèvre. He won a gold medal in the C1 event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Luka Božič is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. He started out as a C2 paddler partnering Sašo Taljat in the boat until the C2 event was discontinued in 2017. Since 2013 he has been competing internationally in C1.
Sašo Taljat is a retired Slovenian slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 2006 to 2017.
Eva Terčelj is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2007.
Benjamin Savšek is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2002, specializing in the C1 discipline. With an Olympic gold, 2 individual world titles and 4 individual European titles, he is one of the most successful C1 paddlers of his generation.
