The National Space Olympiad (NSO) is a science competition conducted in India. [1] [2] The competition is conducted at the Department of Physics, Cochin University of science and Technology. Students from class eight to class ten can participate in the competition. The National Space Olympiad is conducted in remembrance of Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla. [3]
There are 4 levels in NSO, an online examination conducted on the website, a written examination and two level of Quiz competition related to astrophysics, space science etc. The online examination and written examination consists of multiple choice questions. Students must pass the online examination to attend the event. The written examination and the quiz competition are conducted at CUSAT.
Students from class 8 to class 10 of the schools all over India can participate NSO. Students of any recognized school across India can attend the program. Online registration will be opened and those who register have to attend an online test from which participants will be selected for Finals. Those selected ones can participate in NSO Final Event. In NSO 2013-2014 Govind S. Sankar of Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakkara has topped in the National Space Olympiad organized by The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics Resource Centre (IUCAA Resource Centre), Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology and Eureka Next Intellectual Services Pvt Ltd . S. Harikrishnan (Government Higher Secondary School, Valayanchirangara) and K.E. Ajayakrishnan (Bhavans Vidyamandir, Iringalakkuda) shared second prizes. Johan Cheriyan (Indian School, Muscat) got third, S. Aswin (Government Higher Secondary School, Koyilandy) got fourth and Richard Sibi (St. Kuriakose Public School) got fifth positions. [5] [6] [7]
In NSO 2013-2014 Prizes are sponsored by Centre for Health Intelligence Learning and Development (CHILD) is a non-governmental and not – for – profit organization. [8]
In 2014 the event was conducted on 8 February 2014 by The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics Resource Centre (IUCAA Resource Centre), Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology and Eureka Next Intellectual Services Pvt Ltd. [9] [10] The Session on space Science was done by Prof. P R Madhava Panicker A veteran with Mtech from IISC, had associated with ISRO from 1971 -2005, and now engaged as Professor at RSET, Kochi. [11] A renowned science writer, an active member of KSSP from 1969 and a life member of INSARM "Indian National Society for Aerospace and Related Mechanisms" and ISOI "Instrument Society of India". [12] The NSO Finals round quiz was mastered by Mr. Sreejith K R, he Completed his M. Tech in Instrumentation and Applied Physics from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He has around 8 years of teaching and research experience. He has published papers in several peer-reviewed National and International journals. An expert in giving invited talks in different areas of engineering and applied physics as well as in conducting technical quizzes. Currently working as Asst. Prof. Electronics and Instrumentation dept., FISAT, Angamaly. [13]
In 2015 the event is announced on 11 January 2015. The venue is at Dept of Physics, CUSAT. The event is organized by Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology and Edumithra Intellectual Services Pvt Ltd. [14] [15] [16] [17] A technical talk by Prof. P.S Nair, former deputy director of ISRO [18] [19] and a telescope making session by IUCCA Resource Centre, CUSAT are included in the event after the quiz. [20] The Online Examination is on 30 November 2014. [21]

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission to promote nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics in Indian universities. IUCAA is located in the University of Pune campus next to the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, which operates the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. IUCAA has a campus designed by Indian architect Charles Correa.

The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) of India is a research institution in India in the field of radio astronomy is located in the Pune University Campus, is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India. NCRA has an active research program in many areas of Astronomy and Astrophysics, which includes studies of the Sun, Interplanetary scintillations, pulsars, the Interstellar medium, Active galaxies and cosmology and particularly in the specialized field of Radio Astronomy and Radio instrumentation. NCRA also provides exciting opportunities and challenges in engineering fields such as Analog and Digital Electronics, Signal Processing, Antenna Design, Communication and Software Development. NCRA has set up the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), the world's largest telescope operating at meter wavelengths located at Khodad, 80 km from Pune. NCRA also operates the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT), which is a large Cylindrical Telescope located near Udhagamandalam, India.

He has made several contributions related to the analysis and modelling of dark energy in the universe and the interpretation of gravity as an emergent phenomenon. He is currently a Distinguished Professor at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, (IUCAA) at Pune, India.
The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) is an educational foundation and a nonprofit organisation, established in 1999, based in New Delhi, India which promotes science, mathematics, general knowledge, introductory computer education and English language skills among school children in India and many other countries through various Olympiads. It helps students in their studies by providing a higher level of education through their books, sample papers and olympiads.The 4 olympiads including NSO,IMO,IGKO and IEO were held online for 2020-21 whereas ICO and NCO were cancelled.
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and research of space science, located at Valiamala, Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is the first university in Asia to be solely dedicated to the study and research of Outer space. It was inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by G. Madhavan Nair, the then Chairman of ISRO. Somak Raychaudhury is an Indian astrophysicist. He is the Director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune. He is on leave from Presidency University, Kolkata, India, where he is a Professor of Physics, and is also affiliated to the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He is known for his work on stellar mass black holes and supermassive black holes. His significant contributions include those in the fields of gravitational lensing, galaxy dynamics and large-scale motions in the Universe, including the Great Attractor.
The School of Engineering is a college under Cochin University of Science and Technology, in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, India. Established in 1979 for offering part-time M.Tech programmes.The school was the first in the country to introduce Information Technology as an engineering stream and is one among very few colleges in the country with a B. Tech course in Safety and Fire Engineering. The school is a Research Centre and major Consultancy Centre. The Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is a competition for Sri Lankan high school students on Astronomy and Astrophysics. It is the highest and the only government sponsored competition in the field of Astronomy, in Sri Lanka.

Known for his research on redshift evolution on the cosmic microwave background radiation, Srianand is a member of the International Astronomical Union and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
Anithottam Thomas Markose, was an Indian jurist at the International Labour Organization and a pioneering figure in legal studies in India. He was the Founder Director of Indian Law Institute (1957–1963) and the first editor of an academic law journal of India, Journal of the Indian Law Institute. He established the School of Legal Studies in 1962 at Cochin University and was Deputy Judge (1965–1977) at the International Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
