Lieutenant-General Naweed Zaman is a retired three-star rank general of the Pakistan Army.

Military career

Zaman was formally commissioned into the Pakistan Armed Forces in 1980, after graduating from the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) with a Sword of Honour, at which he later also served an instructor at the School of Infantry and Tactics. [1]

He also attended the National Defence University, Pakistan (NDU), Joint Services Command and Staff College, UK (JSCSC) and Royal College of Defence Studies, UK (RCDS). [1]

He served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7th Infantry Division, Corps Commander of the IV Corps and as Military Secretary at Army General Headquarters (GHQ). [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

During his service as the GOC of the 7th Infantry Division, he partook in Operation Rah-e-Nijat (Path to Salvation) which cleared out the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other associated militant groups from Pakistan's South Waziristan Agency, and brought it back under the control of the Government of Pakistan.

Zaman is a recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Star of Crescent) by the Government of Pakistan.

In September 2014, Zaman was reportedly shortlisted as a candidate by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to succeed Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Zaheer-ul-Islam, who was about to retire. Ultimately Major General (Later Lt. Gen.) Rizwan Akhtar was selected and appointed to the job. [7] [8]

Academic career

He was appointed Rector of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in November 2016. [1] He left the position in December 2020. [10]

Personal life

Zaman graduated from Cadet College Hasan Abdal (CCH) prior to his military service, is married and has three children. [11]

General Nadeem Raza NI(M), HI(M) is a retired four-star army general of the Pakistan Army who got commissioned in 10 Sind Regiment in September 1985. He served 17th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. Raza was previously the Corps Commander of the X Corps (Pakistan) and CGS and General Officer Commanding 9th infantry division, Wana and Commandant of the Pakistan Military Academy.

Lieutenant General Majid Ehsan is a Retired three-star rank Army General who has served as Inspector General Arms at General Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi. He was appointed to the post of colonel commandant of the Punjab Regiment in July 2021. He previously served as Vice Chief of General Staff and President of the National Defence University, he was appointed as Corp Commander IV Corps in December 2018 until December 2020.

Muhammad Saeed is a Pakistan Army general and the current Chief of General Staff (CGS) at General Headquarters (GHQ). Previously served as corps commander of the V Corps. and the 34 president of the National Defence University from November 2019 to November 2021, his previous staff assignments include director-general of the Inter-Services Intelligence for Analysis branch.

Nauman Mahmood HI(M) is lieutenant general in the Pakistan Army currently serving as the 35th President of National Defence University since 23 November 2021. His previous assignments includes Commanding Officer (CO) of an Infantry Regiment and Chief of Staff (COS) of a Corps. He also served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of an Infantry Division in North Waziristan District and finally Director General Inter-Services Intelligence as a two star before getting promoted to a Lieutenant General. He was appointed to the General Headquarters as Inspector General for Communication & Information Technology Branch at Rawalpindi.

Lieutenant General Chaudhary Sarfraz Ali was a three star Pakistani general who was serving as Corps Commander Quetta since December 2020 and Commander of the Azad Kashmir Regiment since December 2021 until his death in a helicopter crash on 1 August 2022.
