Nelson Samuel Mensah (born 7 December 1973) is a Ghanaian former professional footballer who played as a forward.

Club career

Mensah played two seasons with Romanian side Dinamo București, featuring for them in the 1992–93 UEFA Champions League. [2] He was one of the first foreign players that arrived in Romania after the 1989 Revolution and the first African player to play in the Romanian top division Divizia A. [3] [4]

International career

Mensah made his debut for Ghana in a 1–0 victory against Nigeria at the 1991 CEDEAO Cup in which he scored the only goal of the match. [5] His second game was a friendly game in which he came as a substitute in a 2–0 victory against Indonesia. [5]

The 1991–92 season was FC Dinamo București's 43rd season in Divizia A. The year 1992 brings the 14th Divizia A title in history. Dinamo dominated the season from start to finish and ended without a single loss. The newcomers Gábor Gerstenmájer and Albanian Sulejman Demollari made an instant impact, scoring together 39 goals in league only. The technical staff was formed from Florin Halagian – head coach, Viorel Hizo and Florin Cheran – assistants, and Dutch Rinus Israel – technical director.

The 1992–93 season was FC Dinamo București's 44th season in Divizia A. Dinamo finished second in the championship, four points behind rivals Steaua. Before the 29th day, Dinamo and Steaua had the same number of points, but Dinamo lost the next match, at home, against Selena Bacău, then won only six points in the final five games.

The 1993–94 season was FC Dinamo București's 45th season in Divizia A. Dinamo started the season with a terrible loss against greatest rivals Steaua, on home soil and continued with poor results, ending the season with 11 losses.
