The Netzarim Junction is a road intersection in the central part of Palestine's Gaza Strip. It is formed by the intersection of the Netzarim Corridor (running east-west, built by the Israeli army) with Salaheddin Street (running north-south, and one of the Gaza Strip's two main such roads). [1] It was named after the former Israeli settlement of Netzarim. [1]

On November 12, 1994, the Netzarim Junction bicycle bombing occurred. [2] This killed three soldiers, six Israeli servicemen, and six Palestinians. [2] In response, the Palestinian police cracked down and arrested over 100 Islamic militants. [2]

On September 30, 2000, the killing of Muhammad al-Durrah occurred at the junction. [3] However, Richard Landes, writing for Tablet, suggests that the incident was staged. [4]

In August 2024, Israel proposed adding an inspection mechanism to the junction, which the United States rejected. [5]

The Karni Crossing was a cargo terminal on the Israel-Gaza Strip barrier located in the north-eastern end of the Gaza Strip that existed between 1994 and 2011 and used for the export and import of goods from/to the Gaza Strip. This was done as a 'back-to-back' transfer, meaning that Palestinian products meant for export were removed from a Palestinian truck and placed in an Israeli truck, and vice versa for incoming goods. The Karni Crossing was also used by the residents of Netzarim since the Karni road was the only route to that isolated Israeli settlement on which Jewish travel was allowed after the 1994 implementation of the Oslo Accords. The crossing has been affected by the Israeli Blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The Kfar Darom bus attack was a 1995 suicide attack on an Israeli bus carrying civilians and soldiers to Kfar Darom, an Israeli settlement in the Gaza Strip. The attack killed seven Israeli soldiers and one American civilian. The Shaqaqi faction of the Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the bombing. A United States Federal district judge ruled that the Iranian Government had provided financial aid to the group that carried out the attack and were therefore responsible for the murder of the U.S. citizen. The court ordered the Government of Iran to pay the victim's family $247.5 million in damages.

The Netzarim Corridor is a zone of occupation that Israel has set up in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. The corridor splits the strip into a northern zone and a southern zone. The corridor is named for the site of the former Israeli settlement that it includes.

The fighting is centered around the Netzarim Corridor, a road built by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) which runs through the middle of the Strip and has been used for launching military operations against Hamas-led Palestinian forces.
