The Neva is a river in northwestern Russia flowing from Lake Ladoga through the western part of Leningrad Oblast to the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland. Despite its modest length of 74 kilometres (46 mi), it is the fourth largest river in Europe in terms of average discharge.

Krestovsky Island is a 3.4 km² island in Saint Petersburg, Russia, situated between several tributaries of the Neva: the Srednyaya Nevka, the Malaya Nevka and the Krestovka. The island is served by the Krestovsky Ostrov station of Saint Petersburg Metro. Until recently, the western part of the island was occupied by the Maritime Victory Park, where the international Goodwill Games of sports and athletics competition took place in 1994, which was the first large scale post-Soviet Union international event in Russia. A new stadium, Gazprom Arena, is located where Kirov Stadium was. The stadium serves as home for FC Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Aleksey Petrovich Rastvortsev is a Russian handball player who competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics and in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He played for the Russian National Handball Team 251 match and scored over 900 goals. In his career he played for HC Neva, HC Energija (Voronez), HC Chekhovskie Medvedi, HC Vardar (Skopje) and RK Vojvodina. He finished his active sports career in 2016 and since then he is deputy sport director in HC Vardar; they won the EHF Champions League in 2017.

Nataliya Aleksandrovna Yukhareva is a Russian judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She held a 2007 Russian senior title for her own division, picked up a total of seventeen medals in her career, including a bronze from the European Championships, and finished seventh in the 57-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout most of her sporting career, Yukhareva trained as a full-fledged member of the judo squad for SKA St. Petersburg, under her personal coach, father, and sensei Sergey Yukharev.
Teemu Olavi Heino is a Finnish taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's heavyweight category. He claimed three medals in the over-84 kg category at the European Championships since 2002, and represented his nation Finland at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout his sporting career, Heino trained full-time for Kokemäen Taekwondo Club in his native Kokemäki, under head coach and master Pia Aaltonen.
The Refugee Olympic Team competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016, as independent Olympic participants. In March 2016, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach declared that the IOC would choose five to ten refugees to compete at the Rio Olympics, in the context of the "worldwide refugee crisis", of which the European migrant crisis is a prominent part. The athletes competed under the Olympic Flag. Initially, they were labeled "Team of Refugee Olympic Athletes", with the IOC country code ROA, but this was updated to Refugee Olympic Team with the country code ROT.
The men's welterweight event was part of the boxing programme at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The weight class allowed boxers of up to 67 kilograms to compete. The competition was held from 29 July to 11 August 1984. 36 boxers from 36 nations competed.
