North Carolina's 9th congressional district is a congressional district in south-central North Carolina. The district's current boundaries were redrawn in February 2016 after a U.S. District Court overturned the existing boundaries because of politically directed gerrymandering that suppressed minority representation. The new congressional district consists of Union, Chatham, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, and Robeson counties; a southeast portion of Mecklenburg County; and parts of Cumberland, Moore and Bladen counties.

In 2021, she became the second sitting Charlotte City Council member to give birth since the arrival of her daughter in 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Ajmera was a candidate for North Carolina State Treasurer in the 2020 election.
Nsé Ufot is an activist, community organizer, and the former chief executive officer of the New Georgia Project, a voter support and legal action nonprofit organization founded by Stacey Abrams in 2013. Ufot's organizing efforts in the Georgia 2020 United States presidential election and the 2021 run-off election contributed to turning the state blue. In 2021, she was named one of Time's 100 Next, nominated by Ai-jen Poo. Ufot was fired from the New Georgia Project in 2022, with the group stating that she owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in non-work related expenses.
The Election Integrity Act of 2021, originally known as the Georgia Senate Bill 202, is a law in the U.S. state of Georgia overhauling elections in the state. It replaced signature matching requirements on absentee ballots with voter identification requirements, limits the use of ballot drop boxes, expands in-person early voting, bars officials from sending out unsolicited absentee ballot request forms, reduces the amount of time people have to request an absentee ballot, increases voting stations or staff and equipment where there have been long lines, makes it a crime for outside groups to give free food or water to voters waiting in line, gives the Georgia General Assembly greater control over election administration, and shortens runoff elections, among other provisions.
The New Georgia Project is a nonpartisan effort to engage, register and build power for traditionally underrepresented groups like black, Latinx and young voters in Georgia. In addition to registering voters and boosting voter turnout, another focus is to monitor for changes at election boards around the state of Georgia to be able to help other voters fight and/or adapt to the changes.
The New Pennsylvania Project works to register voters regardless of party, with a focus on people of color and young people. In addition to voter engagement, the organization also has a major focus on voting rights. The organization applauded the switch to automatic voter registration in 2023 in Pennsylvania, and expressed concern that efforts to make voting more difficult endangers American democracy.
