The National Basketball League Most Outstanding Forward is an annual National Basketball League (NBL) award given since the league's inaugural season to the best performing player of the regular season who is classified as a small forward, power forward or centre. [1] The majority of recipients are power forwards who can also play centre when required. Notable small forwards to have won the award include Clifton Bush (2001) and Thomas Abercrombie (2009 & 2010). The winner of the award receives the Commissioners Cup.

While playing primarily as a power forward, Forman was often used in a small forward role as specialist three-point shooter. Forman played as a junior for the Sturt Sabres and was a member of the Australian team that competed at the 2003 World University Summer Games in Korea.

David Cooper is an Australian former professional basketball player who played the majority of his career in the Australian National Basketball League (ANBL). He also played in the New Zealand NBL and the South Australian State League.

Nick Horvath is an American-New Zealand former professional basketball player who played the majority of his career in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). In 2010, he became the first person to win an NCAA championship (2001), an ANBL championship (2009) and a NZNBL championship (2010).

Edward F. "Ed" Book is an American-New Zealand former professional basketball player. Listed at 210 cm and 112 kg, Book played the centre position.

The 2011 NBL season was the 30th season of the National Basketball League. In 2011, the Auckland Pirates debuted in the league but the Christchurch Cougars did not take part due to the effects of the 2011 Canterbury earthquake. The Harbour Heat also did not compete in the 2011 season, leaving the total number of teams at nine.

The 2012 NBL season was the 31st season of the National Basketball League. While the Harbour Heat returned for the 2012 season, the Waikato Pistons dropped out of the league. It marked the first time the league had no Waikato presence since 1983.

The majority of recipients are power forwards who can also play centre when required. Notable small forwards to have won the award include Terrence Lewis (2001), Thomas Abercrombie and Duane Bailey (2014). The winner of the award receives the Stan Hill Trophy, which is named in honour of Hill, a former NBL player and coach who represented the New Zealand men's national basketball team during the 1970s and 1980s. Hill also won the league's inaugural Most Outstanding Forward Award in 1982.

Willie James Burton Jr. is an American-New Zealand former professional basketball player who spent 19 seasons playing in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NBL). Burton came to New Zealand in the mid-1980s to play for Palmerston North and became a league legend. He kept himself in great shape and was still playing top basketball when he turned 40. He won six rebounding titles and ranks as the league's all-time leader around the boards. He finished his career with 4,244 career rebounds, nearly 1,500 rebounds more than the next best individual rebounding total.

The 2016 NBL season was the 35th season of the National Basketball League. The league's team total dropped to an all-time low for the 2016 season, with the departure of the Manawatu Jets leaving the competition with seven teams.

Lincoln "Link" Abrams is an American-New Zealand former professional basketball player who played 10 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). He moved to New Zealand in 2002 to play for the Taranaki Stormers of the Conference Basketball League, helping the team win the league title and promoting them to the NBL in 2003. He continued on with the Taranaki franchise throughout the 2000s, carving out what was a decorated NBL career with numerous individual awards, but achieved little team success with the Mountainairs.
