The National Basketball League Kiwi MVP is an annual National Basketball League (NBL) award given since the 1984 New Zealand NBL season to the best performing New Zealand player(s) of the regular season. With no MVP award given for the league's first two seasons, in 1984, the league named its first MVP in New Zealander John "Dutchie" Rademakers. The award then went on a six-year hiatus before being brought back in 1991. However, the league did not recognise imports, with only New Zealanders being able to win MVP honours. That was until 2003 when a league-wide MVP award was introduced alongside the Kiwi MVP to allow imports the opportunity to win. In 2019, the Kiwi MVP was not awarded for the first time since 1990.

Ethan Rusbatch is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Hawke's Bay Hawks of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). A former captain of the New Zealand under 18 team, Rusbatch began his NZNBL career in 2012 with the Southland Sharks after spending one season in the United States playing college basketball for Lincoln Trail College. As a junior, he represented Canterbury in all age groups, winning national titles in 2009 and 2011. He spent four seasons playing for the Canterbury Rams between 2014 and 2017, before joining the Hawke's Bay Hawks in 2018.
Shea Ili is a New Zealand professional basketball player for Melbourne United of the National Basketball League (NBL). Ili was raised in Mangere Bridge, playing his basketball at Onehunga High School and appearing for Counties Manukau in rep teams before appearing in the New Zealand NBL with the Auckland Pirates in 2012. In 2014, he joined the New Zealand Breakers as a development player. That season, he was a member of the Breakers' championship-winning team. In 2016, he was elevated to the Breakers' full-time roster, and in February 2018, he was named the NBL Most Improved Player for the 2017–18 season.

The 2019 NBL season was the 38th season of the National Basketball League. The competition increased to nine teams in 2019 with the Southern Huskies joining the league for the first time, marking the first time ever that an Australian team has joined a New Zealand competition.
Jordan Ngatai is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Otago Nuggets of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). He is also a regular New Zealand Tall Black and has played six seasons with the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian NBL. He has won three championships with the Wellington Saints in the NZNBL.

Thomas James Vodanovich is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Manawatu Jets of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). He played college basketball in the United States for the James Madison Dukes between 2013 and 2017 before having a two-year stint with the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian NBL.
