Peleka Lwana (born 25 December 1990), [1] known professionally as Nia Pearl, is a South African singer and songwriter. She gained popularity for her collaborations with South African Amapiano producers such as DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. [2]

Early life and education

Nia Pearl was born and raised in Mthatha, Eastern Cape [1] where she grew up in a family of six sisters and was raised by a father in a close-knit family. She got inspired by her sisters to start writing her own songs. She graduated in 2013 after completing her degree in music. After completing her studies, she began carving her path into music industry. [3] [4]

Career

In 2014, she performed at The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival in Johannesburg. [5] She also participated in the Castle Milk Stout music competition organized by Metro FM. In 2015, she performed at The Nescafe Red Mugg sessions. [4] In April 2017, she released her debut single Liberty which featured SAMA award winning musician Kabomo. [6] Later that same year she released her single, Yiza which was produced by renowned soul and jazz producer Luyanda Madope. The release of the single was accompanied by a video which featured guest artist, Mapele. She was also featured in the Sho Madjozi single titled, User Busy. [7]

In 2020, she collaborated with Kabza De Small on the album, I Am the King of Amapiano, in which she featured on five songs from the project. [8]

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE is an amapiano collaborative album by TRESOR, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. It was released on 9 April 2021 and features guest appearances from local South African musicians such as Tyler ICU, Mas Musiq and the Cape Town band Beatenberg. The 14-track album is composed of TRESOR's vocals, which are combined from genres such as amapiano, Kwassa kwassa, rumba, salsa, bubblegum and Afrobeats. The album also alternates between Swahili, French, English, Zulu and Lingala.

MFR Souls is a South African Amapiano music duo founded in 2012 by Tumelo Nedondwe and Tumelo Mabe, both of whom are DJ and music producers from Katlehong in the East Rand of Johannesburg. Their hit single "Love You Tonight" was commercial success certified platinum in South Africa.

KOA II Part 1 is the fourth studio album by South African DJ Kabza De Small, released on June 16, 2022, through Piano Hub. The album features guest appearances from DJ Maphorisa, Ami Faku, Msaki, Young Stunna, Kwesta, Bob Mabena, Mhaw Keys and more.

"Imithandazo" is an amapiano song by Kabza de Small and Mthunzi from their collaborative studio album Isimo (2023). It was released on 27 October 2023 by Piano Hub under exclusive license from Sony Music Entertainment Africa, it features guest appearances from DJ Maphorisa, Sizwe Alakine, Young Stunna, and Umthakathi Kush with production handled by Kabza de Small and DJ Maohorisa, collectively known as Scorpion Kings.
