Nicholas Matveev (born August 7, 1997) is a Canadian sprint kayaker. [1]

Career

At the World Championships, as part of the K4 boat, Matveev finished in ninth in the second semifinal, failing to qualify for the finals. A year later, the boat finished in fifth in the B final (14th overall). [2]

In May 2021, Matveev was named to Canada's 2020 Olympic team. [3] In September 2023, Matveev was named to Canada's 2023 Pan American Games team. [4]

In June 2024, Matveev was named to Canada's 2024 Olympic team. [5] [6]

A sprint canoe is a canoe used in International Canoe Federation canoe sprint. It is an open boat propelled by one, two or four paddlers from a kneeling position, using single-bladed paddles. He is the two time reigning world champion in same event having also won a silver medal at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2013. He is also the current Pan American champion in the 200 having won gold in Toronto at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, where he also won an additional bronze, and a silver and bronze at previous editions of the Pan Am Games. He was named the Air Canada Athlete of the Year in 2015 for Canada.

Cameron "Cam" Smedley is a Canadian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. Smedley competes as a member of the Canadian National Whitewater Slalom Team. He competes in the C1 class. Until 2015 he also competed in C2 with his partner Ben Hayward.

Pierre-Luc Poulin is a Canadian sprint kayaker. He won several World Cup and international medals.

Andréanne Langlois is a Canadian sprint kayaker. She is the current Pan American Games champion in the women's K-2 500 m with Alanna Bray-Lougheed, as well as in the K-4 500 metres. She also added two individual Pan American Games silvers in 2019 in both the K-1 200 m, and K-1 500 m. Langlois competed as part of Canada's Olympic team at 2016 Rio Olympics.

Katharine Leslie "Katie" Vincent is a Canadian sprint canoeist. She won a gold medal in the women's C-1 200 metres event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as well as two bronze medals in the women's C-2 500 metres event, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Alanna Bray-Lougheed is a Canadian sprint kayaker. She is the current Pan American Games champion in the women's K-2 500 m with Andréanne Langlois, as well as in the K-4 500 metres with Langlois, Anna Negulic, and Alexa Irvin. Bray-Lougheed was selected by the RBC Training Ground program, an elite Olympic athlete training and identification program for Canada, and joined the Canadian national team in 2015. She competed in the 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, her first World Championships, and made the A Final in the K-2 1,000 m, finishing sixth.

Madeline Schmidt is a Canadian sprint kayaker.

Simon McTavish is a Canadian male sprint kayaker. Born in Oakville, Ontario, Simon McTavish moved with his family to Sydney, Australia where he began paddling in 2011 at the age of 14. He represented Australia for 7 years from 2012 to 2018 on Olympic Hopes, Junior, U23 and Senior Teams. After successful international results in 2018, winning medals for Australia at the U23 World Championships and the FISU World University Games, the opportunity presented itself to return home to Canada and Simon jumped at it.

Vincent Jourdenais is a Canadian sprint kayaker. Jourdenais started kayaking in 2007, at the age of 10.
