Nicosia New General Hospital is the Nicosia district's main medical center. It opened in 2006, replacing Nicosia Old General Hospital.

The contract for the construction of the New Nicosia General Hospital was signed in 1997. On 14 April 1997, the former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Glafkos Clerides, laid the foundation stone. [1]

The cost for the construction and equipment of the New Nicosia General Hospital was about 120 million Cyprus pounds (205 million euro). On 17 October 2006, the removal from the Old to the New Nicosia General Hospital was completed. [1]

The New Nicosia General Hospital was inaugurated by the former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos, on 30 March 2007. [1]

The hospital occupies an area of 102000 m2, of which approximately 31000m2 are non-hospital premises. [2]

Demetris Christofias

Demetris Christofias, also spelled Dimitris Christofias, was a Cypriot politician who served as the sixth President of Cyprus from 2008 to 2013. Christofias was the General Secretary of AKEL and was the European Union's and Cyprus' first — and so far only — communist head of state. He won the 2008 Cypriot presidential elections in the second round of voting. Makario Stadium, is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus. It was the largest and main sports venue of the capital up to the construction of the GSP stadium in 1999. At present it is mostly used for football matches and is the home ground of Digenis Morphou, Doxa Katokopias, Ethnikos Assia and Olympiakos Nicosia. The stadium holds 16,000 seated spectators. The playing field is surrounded by a running track and can be adapted to hold most track and field events. Apart from corporate boxes and the press centre, there are no coverings for spectators.

Nicosia International Airport Closed airport in Cyprus

Nicosia International Airport is a largely disused airport located 8.2 km (5.1 mi) west of the Cypriot capital city of Nicosia in the Lakatamia suburb. It was originally the main airport for the island, but commercial activity ceased following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. The airport site is now mainly used as the headquarters of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.

Nicosia Old General Hospital was the chief hospital of Nicosia, Cyprus from 1936 to 2006. In 2006, its patients were transferred to the Nicosia New General Hospital, and it was demolished in 2010 amidst some controversy over whether it should have been preserved.

Pancyprian Gymnasium Public high-school

The Pancyprian Gymnasium(Παγκύπριον Γυμνάσιον) was founded in 1812 by Archbishop Kyprianos at a time when Cyprus was still under Ottoman rule. The Lefkotheo Indoor Hall is an indoor arena in Nicosia, Cyprus. It is located next to the Makario Stadium, with which it shares a common car parking lot. It has a crowd capacity of 3,000 seated spectators. Currently, the arena is used by the basketball, volleyball and futsal departments of APOEL Nicosia.

Ayios Andreas or Tophane is a Neighbourhood, Quarter, Mahalla or Parish of Nicosia, Cyprus. In September 1945, the Ottoman name of Tophane was changed to Ayios Andreas, but there is no parish church of that name.
