The Nigerian Institute of Journalism is a Nigerian monotechnic located in Ikeja, Lagos State. [1] The institute is a diploma awarding monotechnic established in 1963 by the International Press Institute and became fully operational in 1971. [2] The institute offers academic and professional diploma programmes, ranging from full time to part time, for the award of National Diploma. The institute has a special programme directorate charged with developing certificate courses in effective writing and communication, photojournalism, film directing. [3] [4] It is one of the monotechnics in Nigeria accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.

Administration

The institute has a governing council [5] chaired by Chief Olusegun Osoba and others members who perform general oversight over the institution and its affairs. [6] The day to day activities of the institution is headed by a provost who serves as the chief academic officer and assisted by a deputy provost as well as the registrar who plays a major role in the review, development, and enforcement of goals and objectives. [7] [8] On September 1, 2020, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye [9] assumed the office of the provost of the institute succeeding Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye.

The university caters for over 35,000 students. The University was established during the Administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June, 2021, LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Gbenga Daniel is a Nigerian politician who served as Senator for Ogun East since 2023. He previously served as governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011.

Gamaliel Oforitsenere Onosode was a foremost Nigerian technocrat, administrator and a former presidential candidate of the All Nigeria People's Party of Nigeria. Educated at the Government College, Ughelli and the University of Ibadan, he emerged in the 1970s as one of Nigeria's leading educated chief executives, when he was at the helm of NAL merchant bank of Nigeria. Reuben Adeleye Abati is a Nigerian Journalist, Politician, Television Anchor and Newspaper Columnist. He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s Deputy Governorship candidate in Ogun State for the 2019 Gubernatorial election. Abati was Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria between Year 2011 and 2015. He was previously a newspaper columnist and the chairman of the editorial board of the Nigerian newspaper The Guardian from 2001 to 2011. He is a graduate of Theater Arts from the University of Calabar. Chief Kola Muslim Animasaun is a Nigerian journalist, columnist and former Chairman of the editorial board of The Vanguard, Nigeria's leading newspaper. His book, From 1939 to the Vanguard of Moodern Journalism, was launched at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos in July 2012 and the occasion was attended by Chief Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, and Abiola Ajimobi, the Governor of Oyo State, southwestern Nigeria.

Oluwole Babafemi Familoni is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Lagos and member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. Between 2000 and 2002, he was the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Lagos. He was appointed the Head of the Department of Chemistry between 2002 and 2005. Sam Omatseye is a Nigerian poet, novelist, playwright and journalist. Born on June 15, 1961, Sam Omatseye hails from Delta State, Nigeria. He is a 2019 recipient of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM).

Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is a network of more experienced journalists who have attained the position of editors. It is an independent non-profit and non-partisan organisation established to develop human capacity, economic empowerment, protection and welfare of its members. The NGE in collaboration with other journalistic bodies across the world, work to preserve the traditions and standard of journalism practice and strict adherence to the Code of Ethics of the profession in Nigeria. NGE advocates for Press Freedom and advancement of democratic practice by engaging with stakeholders saddled with public policy and the welfare of journalists. To help Nigerian media practitioners to uphold the tenet and ethics of journalism, NGE develop, publish and distributes brief editing guide to journalists and organises career linkage programs with local and foreign partners to build professional capacity of its members.

Gbenga Adefaye is a Nigerian Journalist, Administrator and Media Scholar, with over 30 years experience in the Nigerian media industry. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Vanguard media (Newspapers) and the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. More so, he was a two-term president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (2008-2013) and a member of the Governing council of the University of Lagos,Lagos,Nigeria.

The 2015 Nigerian Senate election in Lagos State was held on March 28, 2015, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Lagos State. Oluremi Tinubu representing Lagos Central, Gbenga Bareehu Ashafa representing Lagos East and Solomon Olamilekan Adeola representing Lagos West all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

Olusola Momoh is a Nigerian media executive. She is the co-founder and Vice-Chair of Channels Media Group, the parent company of Channels Television. Momoh graduated with a B.Sc Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. She also holds a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from UniLag.

Funmi Wakama née Coker is a Nigerian journalist.
