Gbenga Adefaye is a Nigerian journalist, administrator and media scholar, with over 30 years' experience in the Nigerian media industry. [1] [2] [3] He is the Editor-in-chief of the Vanguard media (Newspapers) and the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. More so, he was a two-term president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (2008–2013) and a member of the Governing council of the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria. [4] [5]

Education

He obtained a bachelor's degree in Mass communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka,1984 and a Master's degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, Lagos in1988 [6]

Career

Gbenga began his career as a reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority in 1985. [6] He joined the Vanguard Media in 1986 and has risen from being a Reporter/Feature Writer to Editorial Training Manager/Chief Sub-editor and presently the Editor-in-chief and general manager of the Vanguard Media(Newspaper). [6] [7] In addition, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye was appointed to serve as the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, with effect from September 1, 2020, by the Governing council of the institute [8]

Gbenga is the Deputy President, Ife Development Board (IDB) and chairman of the Ile-Ife community. [1] [9]

Alayeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade CFR was the fiftieth traditional ruler or Ooni of Ife from 1980 to his death in 2015, taking the regnal name Olubuse II. He was the traditional ruler of the Yoruba Kingdom of Ile-Ife a traditional Yoruba state based in the town of Ife in Osun State, Nigeria. He was crowned on 6 December 1980 in a ceremony attended by the Emir of Kano, Oba of Benin, Amayanabo of Opobo and Olu of Warri, as well as by representatives of the Queen of the United Kingdom.

Alhaji Fatai Akinade Akinbade is a Nigerian politician and the former Secretary to the State Government in Osun State. He was a contender to become the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governorship of Osun State in the April 2011 elections.

Gbenga Francis Shobo is currently Deputy Managing Director, First Bank of Nigeria Limited; prior to which, he was Executive Director, Retail Banking with the bank. A chartered accountant, Gbenga began his career with Coopers & Lybrand, a firm of chartered accountants, in 1986. Thereafter, he joined Victory Merchant Bank, commencing a career in banking that has spanned 23 years.

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism is a Nigerian monotechnic located in Ikeja, Lagos State. The institute is a diploma awarding monotechnic established in 1963 by the International Press Institute and became fully operational in 1971. The institute offers academic and professional diploma programmes, ranging from full time to part time, for the award of National Diploma. The institute has a special programme directorate charged with developing certificate courses in effective writing and communication, photojournalism, film directing. It is one of the monotechnics in Nigeria accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.

Adelekan Olubuse I was the 46th Ooni of Ife, a paramount traditional ruler of Ile Ife, the ancestral home of the Yorubas. He succeeded Ooni Derin Ologbenla and was succeeded by Ooni Adekola.

The NGE in collaboration with other journalistic bodies across the world, work to preserve the traditions and standard of journalism practice and strict adherence to the Code of Ethics of the profession in Nigeria. NGE advocates for Press Freedom and advancement of democratic practice by engaging with stakeholders saddled with public policy and the welfare of journalists. To help Nigerian media practitioners to uphold the tenet and ethics of journalism, NGE develop, publish and distributes brief editing guide to journalists and organises career linkage programs with local and foreign partners to build professional capacity of its members.
