Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo (born July 31, 1967) is a Ghanaian politician and was the Greater Accra Regional Minister of Ghana. [1] [2] Before this, he was the Volta Regional Minister. [3] He is a member of the seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (Ghana). [4]

Personal life

He is a Christian (Presbyterian) who is married with seven children. [4] [5] In 2016, he lost his brother in a car crash. The brother, known as Quaye, reportedly did not survive the fatal crash which happened on Thursday night, while traveling in a car around Ada. [6]

Early life and education

Afotey-Agbo was born on July 31, 1967. [4] He hails from Katamanso-Nungua, a town in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. He graduated from Ghana Institute of Journalism and obtained his diploma degree in public relations. [7] He holds a Bachelor's Degree, Executive Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Governance. [8]

Politics

Afotey-Agbo is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He is a member of Parliament representing Kpone-Katamanso Constituency in the 4th, 5th, 8th, and the current and 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. Serving as a committee member on committees on Environment, Science and Technology Committee, Youth, Sports and Culture Committee, and Privileges Committee. [9] He served as the Minister of States between 2009 and 2012. He also served as Regional Minister of Greater Accra Region between 2012 and 2014. [10]

Career

He is the managing director (MD) of JNL Afotey-Agbo Ventures. [11] He has been a Member of Parliament from January 2005 till date. [5]

Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye born 30 July 1937 is a Ghanaian politician who represented the constituency of Ayawaso Central in the Parliament of Ghana from 1996 to 2011. He has also served as Regional Minister of the Greater Accra Region under Kufuor's government from 2001 to 2009.

Joshua Alabi is a Ghanaian academic and politician, who served as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) from 2012 to 2016. He previously served as the Rector of the same institution from 2009 to 2012 and Pro-Rector from 2005 to 2008. Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tema Municipal District, which was created from the former Tema District Council, until the eastern portion of the district was split off to create Kpone-Katamanso District on 28 June 2012, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2031; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. However on 15 March 2018, it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2271.
