Nikhil Chinapa is an Indian DJ, host and festival curator, often credited with popularizing EDM among the youth in India. He has been associated with MTV India since the late 1990s and has appeared in multiple television shows including Roadies and Splitsvilla . [1] He has been instrumental in popularizing DJing as a profession and leading the music scene at the Sunburn Festival in its early years. [2]

Early life

Chinapa was born in Bangalore. His father was a paratrooper in the Indian Army, [3] and as a result he did his early education from different schools in India, including Begumpet's Hyderabad Public School, Hyderabad and Faust High School, Secundarabad, after which he studied in St. George High School Agra. He earned a degree in architecture from BMS College of Engineering in Bangalore with a thesis on the design of hospitals. [3] His interest in music grew during his college life when he used to do gigs as a DJ in parties to earn his pocket money.

Personal life

Chinapa married his long-time girlfriend DJ Pearl Miglani in 2012 after a six-year-long relationship. In February 2018, they welcomed their daughter. [4]

Career

Chinapa's career as a television personality started when he won the MTV VJ Hunt in 1999. [5] Thereon he hosted MTV Select, a show which introduced popular music and bands from the various parts of the world. [6] In 2000 he debuted as an actor with the film Snip!. Later, he hosted shows like India's Got Talent 2 with Ayushmann Khurana and several seasons of MTV Splitsvilla . He also judged shows like Rock On, MTV Mashups, Fame X and seasons 4, 5 and 7 of MTV Roadies. [1] Since the thirteenth season of Roadies, Chinapa has been playing the role of a gang leader in the show.

Chinapa co-founded Submerge in 2003 along with his wife Pearl and Hermit Sethi; it went on to be one of the largest EDM companies in India. [7] [8] In 2007, he co-founded Sunburn, but parted ways with the franchise in 2013 due to internal issues and co-founded Vh1 Supersonic with his wife Pearl. It continues to be one of India's biggest dance music festivals. [8]

MTV Roadies Rising is the fourteenth season of Indian reality show MTV Roadies. The show is hosted by Gaelyn Mendonca. It started airing on MTV India from 25 February 2017. Audition episodes were aired from 25 February 2017. The audition was done by the four aspiring gang leaders - Rannvijay Singha, Karan Kundrra, Neha Dhupia and Prince Narula and cricketer Harbhajan Singh is to play a crucial part. Later Nikhil Chinapa replaced Karan Kundrra as gang leader on the journey. Journey started on 8 April 2017 and Roadies Battleground was on 7 April 2017.

Nikhil Sahni also known as DJ NYK is an Indian DJ, music producer, radio host, VJ, music career coach, and label owner at Play Life records. He is widely known for his Bollywood remixes, mashups, and his live sets in locations like Lake Pichola and Kerala backwaters.

Baseer Ali is an Indian model and television personality known for winning Splitsvilla 10 and participating in Roadies Rising and Ace Of Space 2 where he emerged as a runner-up in both the shows.

Ranvijay Singh Singha is an Indian actor, television personality and VJ. Ranvijay is known for his appearance in MTV Roadies, where he won the show. He was a part of the show from 2004 to 2020, earlier as a gang leader and then as a host. He also appeared in judging panel for auditions from 8: Shortcut to Hell to 18: Roadies Revolution. He made his Bollywood debut in Toss: A Flip of Destiny (2009). Ranvijay has also acted in London Dreams (2009) and Action Replayy (2010). Singha made his Punjabi movie debut in 2011, starring in Jimmy Shergill's Dharti.

Roadies Revolution is the seventeenth season of India MTV Roadies, which premiers on MTV on February 15, 2020. Prince Narula, Nikhil Chinapa, Neha Dhupia and Raftaar returned as Leaders while Rannvijay Singh continues as the host.
