Niko Anttola (born 13 February 2003) is a Finnish cross-country skier. He is best known for winning a silver medal in relay the 2023 World Championships.
He hails from Tornio and is coached by his father, Marko Anttola. [1] At the 2021 Junior World Championships he won a silver medal in the 4 × 5 kilometre relay, followed by a silver medal in the 10 kilometre race at the 2022 Junior World Championships. At the 2023 Junior World Championships he won the gold medal in the 10 kilometre race and the silver medal in the 20 kilometres. [2] [3] [4]
He made his World Cup debut in February 2022 in Lahti, collecting his first World Cup points during the 2022–23 FIS Cross-Country World Cup. He broke into the top 20 for the first time in March 2024 in Lahti, finishing 19th in the 20 kilometres. [2]
At the 2023 World Championships in Planica, he finished 24th in the 15 kilometre race and won a silver medal in the 4 × 10 kilometre relay. [2] He was described by YLE as a wildcard for the relay team; when the World Cup season started in late 2022, "Those who envisioned Niko Anttola as the anchor in the World Championships relay can barely be regarded as sane". He won a total of 13 World Championship and two Winter Olympic gold medals with 20 medals overall, and 18 individual FIS Cross-Country World Cup wins with 13 podium places. He is also the record holder for most stage wins (13) in Tour de Ski. By winning his ninth gold medal in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 4 × 10 km relay in Val di Fiemme 2013, he leveled the achievement of Bjørn Dæhlie who had been the most successful World Champion male skier up to that point. He is considered by many as the greatest cross-country skier of all time.
Pasi Ikonen was a Finnish orienteering competitor, winner of the middle distance at the 2001 World Orienteering Championships. His other achievements include two individual silver medals at the world championships, and medals at the World Games and the European championships.
Minna Kauppi is a Finnish orienteer, who was born in Asikkala and lives in Lahti. Kauppi is a nine-time World Champion, including five golds from relays. Kauppi is the most successful Finnish orienteer of all time when ranked by number of gold medals at the World Orienteering Championships. Kauppi was named Finnish Sports Personality of the Year in 2010.
Maryna Mykolayivna Antsybor is a Ukrainian cross country skier who has competed internationally since 2005. She represented Ukraine at the 2010, 2014, and 2018 Winter Olympics. She won a gold and a bronze medal at the 2013 Winter Universiade as well as a silver medal at the 2011 Winter Universiade.. She competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's 10 kilometre classical, Women's 30 kilometre freestyle, Women's 15 kilometre skiathlon, Women's sprint, and Women's 4 × 5 kilometre relay.
Ida Bobach is a Danish orienteering competitor who was Junior World Champion in 2009, and became triple Junior World Champion from 2010, when she won the sprint, long distance and the relay. She represents the club OK Pan Århus, and since 2007, has received training from Danish national coach Lars Lindstrøm. In 2015 she won gold medals at the World Championships in the long and Relay.
Kerttu Elina Niskanen is a Finnish cross-country skier. She is a four-time Olympic medalist.
Tove Alexandersson is a Swedish foot orienteer, ski orienteer, skyrunner, trail runner, ski mountaineer and skysnow runner. Alexandersson has won gold medals at world championships in five different sports plus a silver medal in a sixth sport, and has won a total of 21 gold medals at the World Orienteering Championships, making her the second most successful orienteer in history by number of gold medals at World Championships, behind Simone Niggli-Luder. Alexandersson holds the record for the number of gold medals in a row at the World Orienteering Championships, winning 11 in a row between 2018 and 2022.
Stina Nilsson is a Swedish former biathlete and former cross-country skier. She is a five-time Olympic medalist and the 2018 Olympic champion in the individual sprint. In March 2020 she announced that she would switch to competing in biathlon. In April 2024, she announced her return to cross-country skiing, this time as a long-distance racer.
Iivo Henrik Niskanen is a Finnish cross-country skier who has competed in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011. He is a three-time Olympic champion.
Alexander Alexandrovich Bolshunov is a Russian cross-country skier and two-time winner of the 14th and 15th Tour de Ski.
Katharina Hennig is a German cross-country skier who represents the club WSC Ergebirge Oberwiesenthal. She resides in Königswalde. Her novel achievements to date are the winning gold medal in the team sprint and the silver medal in the 4 × 5 km relay at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China and silver medal in the 4 × 5 km relay at the 2023 World Champions in Planica, Slovenia.
Ebba Kristina Andersson is a Swedish cross-country skier who represents the club Piteå Elit. She has by 2023 three World Championships gold medals. On 22 January 2024, she was awarded the Jerring Award for her 2023 performances.
Johanna Katariina Matintalo is a Finnish cross-country skier and former track and field athlete. She set Finnish age group records as a middle-distance runner and was national champion in the women's 800 metres in 2013, but injuries and stagnating results led her to concentrate on skiing. As a skier, she won silver in the women's skiathlon at the 2017 World U23 Championships and has represented Finland in the 2017, 2019 and 2021 World Championships as well as the 2018 Winter Olympics in cross-country skiing, winning her first and to date, only medal in the 4 × 5 kilometre relay in the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf.
