Nina Miranda is a Brazilian singer and songwriter who was a member of English bands Smoke City, Shrift and Zeep.
Miranda was born in Brasília, Distrito Federal. [1] Her mother is the English Liz Thompson-Miranda; Her father is the Brazilian artist Luiz Aquila, who is also a visual artist.[ citation needed ] The family subsequently lived in both England and France. [2] Miranda said that she wanted to be an opera singer when she was younger, but later studied art instead.[ citation needed ]
Smoke City played major venues and festivals in the UK and Europe. Their first album, Flying Away, was released in 1997, followed in 2001 by Heroes Of Nature. Some of Smoke City's songs, and other writing collaborations Miranda has been involved with, have appeared in films and advertising. In a podcast on the Myspace website of Zeep, the duo that she later formed with fellow Smoke City member, Chris Franck, it was revealed that Smoke City had decided to fold because of pressure exerted on the band by their record label.[ citation needed ] Zeep released an album in July 2007, eponymously named Zeep. [3] In 2009, Zeep released a second album, People & Things. [4]
Miranda has also worked with a variety of artists, performing on tracks for Da Lata, Nitin Sawhney, Basement Jaxx, Cirque du Soleil, Bebel Gilberto, Daniel Jobim, Antonio Chainho, Spiller, Faze Action, Jah Wobble, Les Gammas, Troubleman, Arkestra 1, Hajime Yoshizawa, Robert Miles and DAXUVA. Miranda joined musical forces with Dennis Wheatley in forming the group Shrift. The principal result of this collaboration was the 2006 release, Lost in a Moment.
Miranda and her partner from Smoke City and Zeep, Chris Franck, had two sons together. They separated in 2000.
In 2017, Nina Miranda released her first solo album "Freedom of Movement" on the label Six Degrees Records. She had learnt to record and mix at home and relished immortalising the sound of high-calibre musicians and free-spirited souls that gathered in her home studio and in studios in London, Rio and beyond.
In 2018, Miranda released an album, Le Jardin, with Portuguese producer DAXUVA. "Hummingbird" was its first single.

Smoke City was an English band that blended acid jazz and trip hop, borrowing from Brazilian styles such as samba and bossa nova and some lyrics have excerpts in Portuguese. They are best known for their single "Underwater Love", which was a major hit in 1997, after being used in a Levi's television advertisement, "Mermaids". In 1997, the band released their first album, Flying Away, which included several hits such as "Underwater Love", "Mr. Gorgeous " and "Águas de março ". Smoke City's next album, Heroes of Nature, was released in 2001. An extended version of Heroes of Nature had three more tracks than the original, one of them being a cover version of John Lennon's "Imagine".
Thomas Wesley Pentz, known professionally as Diplo, is an American DJ and music producer. He is a co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project Major Lazer; a member of the supergroup LSD, with Labrinth and Sia; a member of electronic duo Jack Ü, with producer and DJ Skrillex; and a member of Silk City, with Mark Ronson. He founded the record company Mad Decent in 2006, as well as the non-profit organization Heaps Decent the following year. His 2013 extended play (EP), Revolution, debuted at number 68 on the US Billboard 200. The EP's title track was later featured in a commercial for Hyundai and is featured on the WWE 2K16 soundtrack.
Konono Nº1 is a musical group from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are known for their DIY aesthetic, combining electric likembé with vocals, dancers, and percussion instruments that are made out of items salvaged from a junkyard. The group's amplification equipment is equally rudimentary, including a microphone carved out of wood fitted with a magnet from an automobile alternator and a gigantic horn-shaped amplifier. The genre of the band's music has been characterized as difficult to classify; the group themselves have classified their music under the labels of "tradi-modern" and "Congotronics".
Tanto Tempo is an album by Brazilian bossa nova singer Bebel Gilberto. Tanto Tempo was produced by Serbian producer Suba and co-produced by Béco Dranoff for the Ziriguiboom imprint of Crammed Discs. Suba died from smoke inhalation while saving the newly recorded album from a studio fire. The album was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
Nina Live! is a live album and the third album by Filipina singer Nina, released in the Philippines on February 23, 2005, by Warner Music Philippines. The original release date for the album was scheduled on February 22, 2005, but it was moved a day later due to preparation. Nina has released two successful studio albums that are both influenced by pop-R&B, but behind all the commercial activities, she regularly performs on different bars and gigs. The label wanted to show this side of the singer the best way by releasing a live album. The live album was a commercial success debuting straight to number one on the Philippine Top 10 Albums chart. The album consists of love songs from the 1970s to the 1990s, all of which she has covered live. The live session was recorded on January 30, 2005, at PHI Resto & Bar in Metro Manila.

Shrift was a collaboration between former Smoke City vocalist Nina Miranda and producer Dennis Wheatley. Their debut release, Lost In A Moment, brought together acoustic and electronic soundscapes with Miranda's vocals, drawing comparisons with Portishead. "It's all swirling atmosphere, with fingerpicked guitars, glimmering string sections, Brazilian and synthetic percussion and gusty echoes around Ms. Miranda's limpid voice," wrote Jon Pareles in The New York Times.

Stay Alive is the sixth studio album by Filipina singer Nina, released in the Philippines on November 19, 2011 by Universal Records. After a long recording hiatus, Nina started working on a new album with her new label during the second half of 2010. She described the album's sound as "sexy-soul," and stated that they wanted to show the "other side" [the dancer] of her by means of a dance album. The album covers a wide range of genres, consisting of upbeat house, dance songs, but still possessing Nina's distinctive mellow sound. Aside from keeping a close watch to the production and song arrangement, the singer also contributed to the album art when she designed the packaging together with her brother King. She described the new look as "different, slightly futuristic and edgy."

First released in 1995 on Rita Records, the song did not receive recognition until its appearance in a Levi's commercial in 1997, upon which it was positively received critically. It was then re-released as a single by Jive Records and charted in 10 countries, peaking at number four on the UK Singles Chart. It later became the first track on their debut album Flying Away.
