Ninetology is a Malaysian smart phone manufacturer. It was founded in April 2012 by Sean Ng, Marco Beh and Shian [1] and ceased operation in November 2014. It has been taken over by Avaxx Corporation (Malaysian Microsoft distributor) in January 2015.

As of March 2014, Ninetology has sold 1 million devices and have also expanded to Indonesia in September 2013. It has recorded a MYR 180 million in revenue and a 12% Malaysian market share in 2013. [2] Ninetology partners with AirAsia in 2014 for the latter to sport Ninetology and Qualcomm livery on their aircraft to mark Ninetology expansion plan to other ASEAN countries which include Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam. [3]

Decline

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), 2014 was not a good year for Ninetology due to stiff competition of cheaper phones from China. [4] In September 2014, it is reported that the founders of Ninetology have resigned from their post. [1]

In the U.S., Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations prohibit the use of mobile phones aboard aircraft in flight. Contrary to popular misconception, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) does not actually prohibit the use of personal electronic devices on aircraft. The Ninetology Black Pearl II (I9400) is a smart mobile phone manufactured by Ninetology with dual SIM capabilities. It is a low-end smartphone, using a dual core (1.0 GHz) processor and runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 Operating System.

The Ninetology U9Z1 (i9570) is a high-end smartphone developed by Malaysian-based smartphone manufacturer Ninetology. It was announced together with the other Ninetology U9 series smartphones during a launch event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 30 July 2013. The phone has quad-core MediaTek 1.2 GHz processor, and a RAM of 1 GB, with an internal memory of 16 GB which can be extended to another 32 GB by use of microSD cards. The device also supports dual-sim, internet connectivity through 2G and 3G, apart from Wi-Fi. Navigation systems including A-GPS and GLONASS with Google Maps. It runs on the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS. The X1 is one of the three Ninetology U9 series models that was released in July 2013 and this phone is only available to Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Sony Xperia C is a touchscreen enabled Android smartphone designed, developed and manufactured by Sony Mobile Communications. Unveiled at the Mobile Asia Expo held in Shanghai, China in June 2013, the phone was targeted at the Chinese market. It was released in July 2013. Despite its limited release in countries and regions, Xperia C managed to sell very well, having shipped one million units in the first 3 months since it availability.
