Ningbo Campus is a campus of Zhejiang University located in the Ningbo Higher Education Park, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

History

In 2001, Zhejiang University established the Ningbo Institute of Technology as an independent college, thus acquiring its Ningbo campus. [1] The independent college is a type of collaboration between the public university and the business sector in China, which awards its own degree independently. [2] Since 2019, these colleges have been transformed to be separated from the public university that they are affiliated to. [3] The Ningbo Institute of Technology was transformed into NingboTech University as a provincial public university, but remains on the campus as a collaboration between Zhejiang University and the Ningbo Municipal Government. [4]

In October 2016, the Polytechnic Institute, Zhejiang University started recruiting students for its Ningbo branch. Since 2016, Zhejiang University expanded collaboration with the Ningbo Municipal Government. [5] In August 2018, a further agreement was signed between the university and the government to form its Ningbo Campus by establishing the Institute of Ningbo, the International School of Design and the Ningbo branch institution of Polytechnic Institute, relocating the School of Software Technology and improving the academics of NingboTech. [6]

Founded as Ningpo Boy’s Boarding School by Divie Bethune McCartee and colleagues of Northern Presbyterian Church in Ningbo in 1845, the university was one of the oldest missionary schools in China before it was shut down in 1952. The university was merged into Zhejiang University and other universities in China. Its campus was taken over by Zhejiang University as its Zhijiang Campus in 1961, which became a major nationally protected historic site in 2006.

NingboTech University, formerly known as Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, is a public university which transformed from an independent technical college formerly affiliated to the Zhejiang University in 2019. It is located in the Ningbo Higher Education District (寧波高等教育園區/宁波高等教育园区), Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China. It shares the Ningbo Campus with Zhejiang University. It was founded in June 2001, and mainly focuses on undergraduate education following the course of Zhejiang University.

Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine, was a medical college for higher education in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. It was one of main roots for the current School of Medicine, Zhejiang University (浙江大學醫學院/浙江大学医学院).

The World First Class UniversityandFirst Class Academic Discipline Construction, together known as Double First Class, is a tertiary education development initiative designed by the People's Republic of China central government in 2015, which aims to comprehensively develop elite Chinese universities into world-class institutions by the end of 2050 through developing and strengthening their individual faculty departments. The Double First-Class University Plan has made new arrangements for the Chinese higher education institution development. The universities included in this plan are called Double First Class Universities.
