Nirmalendu Goon (born 21 June 1945) [1] is a Bangladeshi poet known for his accessible verse. [2] He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2001 and Independence Day Award by the Government of Bangladesh in 2016. [3] [4] He was also awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1982. [2]
Goon was born in a Bengali Kayastha family of Kasban village, Barhatta Upazila, Netrokona District to Shukhendu Prakash Goon Chowdhury and Binaponi. [1] He passed the Matriculation examination in 1962 and Intermediate examination in 1964 from Netrokona College. In 1969, he earned his bachelor of arts degree. He published his poem Notun Kandari on the magazine Uttor Akash. On 21 February 1965, he published the poem Kono Ek Sangramir Drishtite on the magazine Weekly Janata. [1]
Goon's first book of poetry, Premanghshur Rokto Chai, was published in 1970. [5] Since then he has published forty-five collections of poetry and twenty collections of prose. Part of the generation of poets of 1960s, Goon's poetry contains stinging criticism of the nouveau riche and a touching description of the contrasting fate of the masses. A love of freedom and faith in the human spirit also permeates many of his poems. An avowed Marxist, Goon has also written poems urging an upheaval of the poor against the rich. He also has written a number of poems on important personalities, including Rabindranath, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ( Huliya ), Lenin, Shakti Chattopadhyay and others.
Goon wrote three autobiographical books - Amar Chhelebela, Amar Konthhoshor and Atma Kotha 1971. [5]
The Library of Congress has a collection of thirty-seven titles by Goon. [2] Goon was among the five Bangladeshi poets who took part at the Gothenburg Book Fair '13 in Sweden with their publications. [6]
Goon's solo painting exhibition opened in July 2009 at Shahbagh in Dhaka. [7]

Jasimuddin, popularly called Palli Kabi, was a Bangladeshi poet, lyricist, composer and writer widely celebrated for his modern ballad sagas in the pastoral mode. Although his full name is Jasim Uddin Mollah, he is known as Jasim Uddin. His Nakshi Kanthar Math and Sojan Badiar Ghat are considered among the best lyrical poems in the Bengali language. He is the key figure for the revivals of pastoral literature in Bengal during the 20th century. As a versatile writer, Jasimuddin wrote poems, ballads, songs, dramas, novel, stories, memoirs, travelogues, etc.
Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah was a Bangladeshi poet noted for his revolutionary and romantic poetry. He is considered one of the leading Bengali poets of the 1970s. He received Munir Chaudhury Memorial Award in 1980 and Ekushey Padak in 2024
Syed Shamsul Haq was a Bangladeshi writer. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contributions to Bangla literature. His notable works include "Payer Awaj Pawa Jai", "Nishiddho Loban", "Khelaram Khele Ja", "Neel Dongshon" and "Mrigoya".
Mohammad Nurul Huda is a Bangladeshi poet, essayist, literary critic, translator and folklorist. He served as the Director General of Bangla Academy during 2021–2024.

He won Bangla Academy Literary Award (2013). Hafiz died in Dhaka on 13 December 2024, at the age of 76.

The Mazharul Islam Poetry Award, is given by the Bangla Academy of Bangladesh in recognition of creative genius in advancement and overall contribution in the field of poetry. It was introduced in 2010 to honor the memory of Bangladeshi poet, folklorist, and academic Mazharul Islam.
"Huliya" is a Bengali-language Bangladeshi poem written by Nirmalendu Goon. It is included in his poetry book Premangshur Rokto Chai. Goon wrote it especially for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh. It has 80 rhythmic lines. The poem described the events in East Pakistan during the 1969 Mass uprising.
