The Nissan 1400 is a flatbed truck, which was manufactured from 1971 to 2008 in South Africa under changing designations. Its successor is the Nissan NP200. It was manufactured from Nissan company, which later became Nissan South Africa.
The vehicle with the internal designation B120 was sold worldwide in 1971 as Datsun 1200 and was based on the Model B110. [1] It had a payload of more than half a ton. [2]
In 1976, the Datsun 1200 was renamed 120 Y. [3] [4] At the same time, production started in South Africa. [1]
The model bore the internal designation B121 from 1979 onwards and B122 from 1981, while the larger engined variant available only in South Africa was given the number B140. [1] The B120 was sold in Australia until 1985 and produced in Japan until 1994. [1]
The model in South Africa received a 1.4-liter engine (code A14) in 1980 (or 1984) and was renamed to Datsun 1400 and 1982 respectively to Nissan 1400. [1] [3] [5]
In 1985, the Nissan 1400 received a 75 mm higher cab roof and front disc brakes. [5] [6] At about the same time, local (South African) parts content had reached 100 percent. [7]
The facelift also included the conversion to rectangular headlights and black instead of chrome bumper.
A sport model of the 1400 Bakkie was marketed as the 1400 Sport from 1988 to 1990. It had a 5-speed gearbox and brown interior with sporty brown steering wheel, door pannels and dash. The bucket seats were clothed in brown material with a red pin stripe. Spot lamps, Tonneau cover, Tinted windshield, Mudflaps (front and rear) / The sport was available in 3 colours nl. Firecracker Red, Yellow and Ice White. This model had appropriate side striping with the word "SPORT" at the rear of the decal, a "SPORT" decal on the right hand front corner of the engine hood, the "NISSAN" decal on the tailgate was in fat red lettering with a thin border, bucket seats, a tachometer, a trip odometer, and central handbrake.
From late 1990 onwards the 1400 Sport was rebadged to the 1400 Champ. All the features stayed the same except the brown interior was now dropped for a grey interior such as the dash, steering wheel, side door pannels with grey bucket seats etc. This vehicle had three popular local nicknames, either 1400 or 1400 Bakkie and kanniedood which, translated from Afrikaans, means "cannot die", a testament to its reliability. The 1400 Bakkie was assembled by Nissan in Rosslyn, South Africa (Nissan). [8] Another assembly location for the model was the Aymesa plant in Quito, Ecuador which assembled it under the Datsun brand name as the 1200 PickUp.
Further facelifts took place in 2002 and 2005. [6] Later models of the Nissan 1400 had a five-speed gearbox. [9] Essential technical aspects such as engine with carburetor, leaf springs and rear-wheel drive remained unchanged throughout the construction period. [3]
The Nissan 1400 was regarded as a reference of this class in South Africa and was also nicknamed "Champion of Africa". [10] The production, which was discontinued due to stricter emission and safety regulations, ended with 150 copies of the Heritage Edition. [11] [12]

The Datsun 510 was a series of the Datsun Bluebird sold from 1968 to 1973, and offered outside the U.S. and Canada as the Datsun 1600.

The Nissan Bluebird is a compact car produced between 1955 and 2007 with a model name introduced in 1957. It was Nissan's most internationally recognized sedan, known for its dependability and durability in multiple body styles. The Bluebird originated from Nissan's first vehicles, dating to the early 1900s, and its traditional competitor became the Toyota Corona. The Bluebird was positioned to compete with the Corona, as the Corona was developed to continue offering a sedan used as a taxi since the Toyota Crown was growing in size. Every generation of the Bluebird has been available as a taxi, duties that are shared with base level Nissan Cedrics. It is one of the longest-running nameplates from a Japanese automaker. It spawned most of Nissan's products sold internationally, and has been known by a number of different names and bodystyles, including the Auster/Stanza names.
The Nissan Sunny is an automobile built by the Japanese automaker Nissan from 1966 till 2004. In the early 1980s, the brand changed from Datsun to Nissan in line with other models by the company. Although production of the Sunny in Japan ended in 2004, the name remains in use in China and GCC countries for a rebadged version of the Nissan Almera.
The Nissan S30, sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z, but for export badged as the Datsun 240Z, and later as the Datsun 260Z and 280Z, are 2-seat sports cars and 2+2 GT cars produced by Nissan, from 1969 until 1978. The Nissan Vanette is a cabover van and pickup truck produced by the Japanese automaker Nissan from 1978 until 2011. The Nissan A series of internal combustion gasoline engines have been used in Datsun, Nissan and Premier brand vehicles. Displacements of this four-stroke engine family ranged from 1.0-liter to 1.5-liter and have been produced from 1967 till 2009. It is a small-displacement four-cylinder straight engine. The Datsun truck is a compact pickup truck made by Nissan in Japan from 1955 through 1997. It was originally sold under the Datsun brand, but this was switched to Nissan in 1983. It was replaced in 1997 by the Frontier and Navara. In Japan, it was sold only in Nissan Bluebird Store locations.
The Nissan J series are straight-4 and straight-6 gasoline internal combustion engines produced by Nissan from the 1960s through the 1980s. Nissan Cabstar is the name used in Japan for two lines of pickup trucks and light commercial vehicles sold by Nissan and built by UD Nissan Diesel, a Volvo AB company and by Renault-Nissan Alliance for the European market. The name originated with the 1968 Datsun Cabstar, but this was gradually changed over to "Nissan" badging in the early 1980s. The lighter range replaced the earlier Cabstar and Homer, while the heavier Caball and Clipper were replaced by the 2-4 ton range Atlas (kana:日産・アトラス). The nameplate was first introduced in December 1981.The Cabstar is known also as the Nissan Cabstar, Renault Maxity and Samsung SV110 depending on the location. The range has been sold around the world. It shares its platform with the Nissan Caravan. In spring 2014, Cabstar is now known as NT400.
The Renault Symbol, Clio or Thalia in some markets, is a subcompact sedan produced by the French automobile manufacturer Renault. It was introduced in late 1999, under the Clio Symbol name, as the derivative version of the second generation Renault Clio, and unlike the hatchback it was marketed only in those countries where saloons were traditionally preferred over hatchbacks, while it was not sold in Western Europe. The company was established in 1922, and produced cars from 1934 until 1957, when it was acquired by Tokyu Kurogane Kogyo company and ceased auto production. The factory became Omori Works when it became part of Nissan when Kurogane joined the corporate structure.
The Datsun Go/Go+ is a city car and mini MPV with "5+2" seating capacity that was produced by the Japanese automaker Nissan under the Datsun brand between 2014 and 2022. Named after the "Dat-Go", Datsun's first car launched in the early 20th century, the Go was available in developing markets such as India, South Africa and Indonesia. It is built on the same V platform as the K13 Nissan Micra/March, from which it has inherited much of its components. In 2018, Nissan introduced a crossover derivative called the Datsun Cross, which was previewed as the Datsun Go-cross Concept in 2015. The Cross was only available in Indonesia.
The Datsun brand automobile is owned and produced by Nissan. The name originated in 1931 when Dat Motorcar Company came out with a new smaller version of their original car. The company named this car "Datson", but when Nissan bought out the company they changed the name to "Datsun". Many types of this car were produced including the Fairlady, 240Z, and the 140Z.
