The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative arm of the All India Services of Government of India. The IAS is one of the three All India Services along with the Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service. Members of these three services serve the Government of India as well as the individual states. IAS officers are also deployed to various government establishments such as constitutional bodies, staff and line agencies, auxiliary bodies, public sector undertakings, regulatory bodies, statutory bodies and autonomous bodies.

This post is held by senior IAS officer of the rank of Secretary to Government of India. The current Personnel Secretary is Rachna Shah, a 1991 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre.
Atanu Chakraborty is the chairperson of HDFC Bank. He was appointed by the Reserve Bank of India in April 2021. He is a retired 1985 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service and Gujarat cadre, and served as the Economic Affairs Secretary of India until his retirement in April 2020. His participation in the economic policy making for India included Budget formulation, its passage in Parliament as well as fiscal management.
Guruprasad Mohapatra was an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) who had held several important positions in the Gujarat State Govt and also in the Central Govt of India. At the time of his demise in June 2021 due to COVID-19 he was holding the position of the Secretary of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in Govt of India.
