The Samajwadi Party is a socialist political party in India. It was founded on 4 October 1992 by former Janata Dal politician Mulayam Singh Yadav and is headquartered in New Delhi. The Samajwadi Party is currently led by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav.

Earlier, he was an elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly for Karhal in the 18th Vidhan Sabha, before resigning and has also been the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from March 2022 to June 2024.
Uday Pratap Singh Yadav is an Indian politician of the Samajwadi Party in India who represented the state of Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha between 2002 and 2008. He was a member of the Lok Sabha from 1989–1996.

Yadav was a prominent figure of his time in Uttar Pradesh politics, and was often referred to as Netaji and sometimes Dhartiputra by his party leaders and workers. Known for several controversies, Yadav was one of the few politicians to be labelled "Supporter of Rape and Rapists" due to his comments on rape and anti-women views and opinions. In 2023, he was posthumously conferred with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award by the Government of India.
