Noah Idechong is an environmental activist from Palau,and former chief of Palau's Governmental Division of Marine Resources,where he helped draft the county's first marine conservation legislation in 1997. Having linked marine science,fisheries,and political reform in Palau,he was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 1995 for his efforts in marine conservation. Idechong helped found the Palau Conservation Society,which spearheaded revivals in traditional conservation,now proven as effective management measures in the Micronesia region.
He later served as a member of the House of Delegates of Palau for the State of Ngiwal since the 2000 elections, [1] helping to enact progressive,conservation-oriented public programs,such as the Protected Areas Network,the Micronesia Challenge,and the word's first Shark Sanctuary. [2] He served as the speaker of the House of Delegates of Palau from 15 January 2009 to November 2012. [3]
He attended Palau High School and graduated from Pine City High School in Minnesota in 1971. He received a bachelors in Business Administration from Hawaii Pacific College in Honolulu in 1976.

Seacology is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization headquartered in Berkeley,California,that works to preserve island ecosystems and cultures around the world. Founded in 1991,it began with the work of ethnobotanist Paul Alan Cox,who researched tropical plants and their medicinal value in the village of Falealupo in Samoa during the mid-1980s. When the villagers were pressured into selling logging rights to their rainforest in 1988 to build a new school,Cox and his wife offered to help secure funds for the new school in return for an agreement with the villagers to protect their forest. With the help of his friends and family,Cox secured the funds within six months,later earning him and the village chief,Fuiono Senio,the Goldman Environmental Prize for their efforts. Word spread throughout the islands,and with increasing demand for similar projects,Cox,along with Bill Marréand Ken Murdock,decided to form Seacology and expand their work internationally. For the first few years,the organization operated on a volunteer basis.

Roman Tmetuchl was a Palauan political leader and businessman. He grew up in Japanese-controlled Palau and joined the Kempeitai,the Japanese secret police,during World War II. After the war,he became the leader of Palau's Liberal Party. He worked in the Congress of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands from 1964 to 1978 and advocated for Palau gaining a separate status from the rest of Micronesia. He became governor of Airai and engaged in three unsuccessful Palauan presidential campaigns. As a businessman,Tmetuchl led several construction projects for his business holdings and for the Palauan community,including the Palau International Airport and a Seventh-Day Adventist clinic.
