Nokou is a town and sub-prefecture of Kanem Region in Chad. It is the capital of the department of Nord Kanem. [1] [2]

On April 18, 2021, Chadian president Idriss Déby was wounded by gunfire in the nearby town of Mele, as part of the Northern Chad offensive by the Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT). Déby was subsequently moved to the capital of Chad, N'Djamena, where he died two days later. [3]

Kanem (region) Region of Chad

Kanem is one of the 23 regions of Chad. It is named after the famous Kanem Empire, which was centred in this vicinity. The region's capital is Mao. It was created in 2002 from the former Prefecture of Kanem. In 2008, a portion of the Kanem region was split off to become the new Bahr el Gazel Region.

Administrative divisions of Chad

The administrative divisions of Chad have often changed since 1900, when the territory was first created by France as part of its colonial empire, with the name Territoire Militaire des pays et protectorats du Tchad. The first subdivision took place in 1910, when 9 circumscriptions were made, named départements (departments) in 1935 and régions (regions) in 1947. As for the regions, they were further divided in districts.

Ennedi (region) Region in Chad

Ennedi Region was a former region of Chad. It was created in 2008 from the Ennedi Est Department and Ennedi Ouest Department of the former Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti Region. The capital of the Ennedi region was Fada. In 2012 it was split into two new regions: the department of Wadi Hawar became Ennedi-Est Region and the department of Ennedi became Ennedi-Ouest Region.

Bahr el Gazel (region of Chad) Region of Chad

Barh El Gazel is one of the 23 regions of Chad. The region's name may also be written as Barh El Gazal or Bahr el Gazel. Its capital is the town of Moussoro. The region was created in 2008 from the former Barh El Gazel Department of the Kanem Region.

Mahamat ibn Idriss Déby Itno, also known as Mahamat Kaka, is the Chairman of the Transitional Military Council of Chad acting as the de facto interim President of Chad. He is the son of the late Chadian President Idriss Déby. He previously served as the second in-command of the military for the Chadian Intervention in Northern Mali (FATIM).

The Front for Change and Concord in Chad, or FACT, is a political and military organisation created by SG Mahamat Mahdi Ali in March 2016 in Tanua, in the north of Chad, with the goal of overthrowing the government of Chad. It is a splinter group of the Union of Forces for Democracy and Development. Ali declared his preparation for military operations against President Idriss Déby. The group was responsible for the death of Déby in April 2021, when he was killed while commanding troops on the frontline fighting the militants.

Nord Kanem is a department of Kanem Region in Chad. It was created by Ordinance No. 002 / PR / 08, on February 19, 2008. Its capital is Nokou.

Wadi Bissam is a department of Kanem Region in Chad. It was created by Order No. 002 / PR / 08 of 19 February 2008. Its chief town is Mondo.

Wadi Hawar is a department in the Ennedi-Est region of the Republic of Chad.

Ntiona is a sub-prefecture of Kanem Region in Chad.

Rig Rig is a sub-prefecture of Kanem Region in Chad.

Ziguey is a sub-prefecture of Kanem Region in Chad.

Northern Chad offensive Rebel offensive in Northern Chad

The Northern Chad offensive, initiated by the Chadian rebel group Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), is an ongoing event that started on 11 April 2021. It began in the Tibesti Region in the north of the country following the 2021 Chadian presidential election. Chadian President Idriss Déby was killed during the offensive on 20 April.
