Nora-Isabelle Balling, [1] also known as Nora Anders (born July 31, 1964, Koblenz, Germany) is a German fashion model, and was the first wife of the singer and former Modern Talking member, Thomas Anders, between 1984 and 1999.
Koblenz, spelled Coblenz before 1926, is a German city situated on both banks of the Rhine where it is joined by the Moselle.
Germans are a Germanic ethnic group native to Central Europe, who share a common German ancestry, culture and history. German is the shared mother tongue of a substantial majority of ethnic Germans.
A model is a person with a role either to promote, display or advertise commercial products, or to serve as a visual aid for people who are creating works of art or to pose for photography.
After Balling graduated from high school, she studied in a Bonn cosmetology school, and got a qualification in cosmetics and makeup the following year.
The Federal City of Bonn is a city on the banks of the Rhine in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with a population of over 300,000. About 24 km (15 mi) south-southeast of Cologne, Bonn is in the southernmost part of the Rhine-Ruhr region, Germany's largest metropolitan area, with over 11 million inhabitants. It is famously known as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven in 1770. Beethoven spent his childhood and teenage years in Bonn.
Balling was previously the bride of one of Thomas Anders's friends. When young, she inherited a considerable amount of money from her parents. Anders started his music career in 1980 and published songs such as Du weinst um ihn . Balling started a relationship with Anders in 1983 and appeared in the music video of Heißkalter Engel the same year.
Du weinst um ihn is a German ballad by singer Thomas Anders. It was his second single.
A music video is a short film that integrates a song with imagery, and is produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie-in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie-ins and merchandising can be used for toys or for food or other products. Although the origins of the music video date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they again came into prominence in the 1980s when the channel MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these kinds of videos were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip".
In August 1984, Anders proposed to Balling. However, her mother died shortly afterwards, on November 5 and the couple were also involved in a road accident on November 12. Both remained uninjured.
Later that year, in September 1984, Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders founded Modern Talking, which produced many hit songs like "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" and "Brother Louie".
Dieter Bohlen is a German musician, songwriter, record producer, and television personality. Often referred to as the "Pop-Titan" in the German-speaking press, he first achieved fame as a member of pop duo Modern Talking in the 1980s, and has since produced numerous German and international artists. He is also a judge on casting shows Deutschland sucht den Superstar and Das Supertalent, having been present on all seasons of both shows.
Bernd Weidung, better known by his stage name Thomas Anders, is a German singer, best known as the lead singer of German duo Modern Talking.
Modern Talking was a German duo consisting of singer Thomas Anders and arranger, songwriter and producer Dieter Bohlen, with the participation of Luis Rodríguez in the production, the choir and background voices of Rolf Köhler, Michael Scholz and Detlef Wiedeke. They have been referred to as Germany's most successful pop duo, and have had a number of hit singles, reaching the top five in many countries. Some of their most popular and widely known singles are "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", "You Can Win If You Want", "Cheri, Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie", "Atlantis Is Calling " and "Geronimo's Cadillac".
Despite these setbacks and distractions, Balling and Anders were married on December 28, 1984 in a registry office, [2] The following summer, they had a church wedding ceremony on July 27, 1985 in the Catholic Church Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Koblenz. [1] On this occasion, Nora Balling gave Anders the well-known Nora necklace,[ citation needed ] which Anders wore in most of his Modern Talking videos. Balling became Anders' personal manager, make up artist, and image maker [1]
Balling divorced Anders in February 1999. [3]
