Norbert Haupert (born 2 April 1940, in Schifflange) is a retired Luxembourgish athlete and currently a politician, sitting in the Chamber of Deputies for the Christian Social People's Party. Like Josy Barthel before him, Haupert spanned the divide between sport and politics by heading the Luxembourg Athletics Federation and the Luxembourgian Olympic and Sporting Committee.
As an athlete, he ran middle distance, dominating Luxembourgian middle distance running in the early 1960s and twice doubling up to win both the 800 metres and 1500 metres at the Luxembourgian national championships. [1] He also won the bronze medal at the 800 metres at the 1963 World Student Games. [2] He represented Luxembourg at the 1960 Summer Olympics.
In addition to sitting in the Chamber, Haupert has been a member of the Mondercange communal council since 1 January 1999. [3]

He was the surprise winner of the Men's 1500 metres at the 1952 Summer Olympics, and the only athlete representing Luxembourg to have won a gold medal at the Olympics. Besides athletics, Barthel also led successful careers in both chemistry and politics.

He won medals at smaller international competitions, including the 2004 Pan Arab Games and 2005 Mediterranean Games. He reached his first global final at the 2007 World Championships, taking sixth, and was a semi-finalist at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Pierre Mellina is a Luxembourgish politician and retired track and field athlete.
Jean Hamilius is a former Luxembourgish politician and government minister from the Democratic Party. He was born in Luxembourg City. He served as Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Public Works (1974–79) as well as Associate Minister for Foreign Affairs (1976–1979) in Gaston Thorn's government (1974–79). He sat in the Chamber of Deputies between 1969 and 1984, and in the communal council of Luxembourg City (1969–74). He was one of Luxembourg's six Members of the European Parliament from 1979 until 1981.
Ryszard Ostrowski is a retired Polish middle distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres.
Totka Nikolaeva Petrova is a retired female middle distance runner who represented Bulgaria in the 1970s and the early 1980s. She specialized in the 800 and 1500 metres, and won numerous international medals. She is still the Bulgarian 1500 metres record holder.
Gary Lough is a British male former middle-distance runner. He represented his country at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, finishing the 1500 metres final in ninth place. He won 1500 m bronze medals internationally at the 1993 Summer Universiade and the 1994 European Cup. He also participated at the 1994 IAAF World Cup and the 1996 European Cup.
Ehsan Mohajer Shojaei is an Iranian middle distance track athlete who specialized in the 800 metres. Mohajer Shojaei was a bronze medalist in the 2006 Asian Games and 2011 Asian Athletics Championships, a competitor at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and a gold medalist at the 2007 Summer Universiade. He was born only one day off of the birth date of fellow countryman Sajjad Moradi, with whom Shojaei ran numerous 800 metres races in international competition.
Seltana Aït Hammou is a Moroccan middle-distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. She represented her country at the 2004 Summer Olympics and has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics and the IAAF World Indoor Championships. She has also been the gold medallist at number of major events including the 2001 Mediterranean Games, the 2003 Military World Games, the 2007 Pan Arab Games and the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie.
Katrina Jane Weston is a former British middle distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres. Competing as Jane Colebrook, she equalled the world indoor best to win at the 1977 European Indoor Championships and won a bronze medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Competing as Jane Finch, she won a silver medal at the 1985 World Indoor Games.
Justin Gloden is a Luxembourgish athlete competing in the long-distance events. He represented his country in the marathon at the 1988 Summer Olympics finishing 36th out of 118 competitors. He also competed at the 1983 and 1987 World Championships.
