Norbert Haupert (born 2 April 1940, in Schifflange) is a retired Luxembourgish athlete and politician of the Christian Social People's Party. He was a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1999 to 2013, representing the Sud constituency. Like Josy Barthel before him, Haupert spanned the divide between sport and politics by heading the Luxembourg Athletics Federation and the Luxembourgish Olympic and Sporting Committee.
As an athlete, he ran middle distance, dominating Luxembourgish middle distance running in the early 1960s and twice doubling up to win both the 800 metres and 1500 metres at the Luxembourgish national championships. [1] He also won the bronze medal at the 800 metres at the 1963 World Student Games. [2] He represented Luxembourg at the 1960 Summer Olympics.
In addition to having sat in the Chamber, Haupert has been a member of the Mondercange communal council since 1 January 1999. [3]

Wilson Kosgei Kipketer is a Danish former middle distance runner. With a personal best of 1:41.11, Kipketer is tied with Emmanuel Wanyonyi as the second fastest of all time over the 800 meter distance, behind David Rudisha. Kipketer set the world record and broke his own record two more times, all in 1997. He dominated the 800 m distance for a decade, remaining undefeated for a three-year period and running 8 of the 17 currently all-time fastest times. He won gold medals in three successive editions of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. Though unable to compete in the 1996 Olympics near the peak of his career, he earned silver in 2000 and bronze in 2004. Kipketer's 800 meters world record stood for almost 13 years. It was surpassed on 22 August 2010, when David Rudisha beat it by 0.02 seconds, running 1:41.09. Kipketer still currently holds the indoor world record for the 800 metres.
Joseph ("Josy") Barthel was a Luxembourgish athlete and politician. He was the surprise winner of the Men's 1500 metres at the 1952 Summer Olympics, and the only athlete representing Luxembourg to have won a gold medal at the Olympics. Besides athletics, Barthel also led successful careers in both chemistry and politics.

Amine Laâlou is a Moroccan track and field athlete, who specializes in middle-distance running. He has represented his country at the Summer Olympics on two occasions; in 2004 and 2008. He began his career as an 800 metres specialist and made his global debut at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics. He won medals at smaller international competitions, including the 2004 Pan Arab Games and 2005 Mediterranean Games. He reached his first global final at the 2007 World Championships, taking sixth, and was a semi-finalist at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Yuliya Krevsun is a Ukrainian middle-distance running athlete who specialises in the 800 metres. She is a member of Fenerbahçe Athletics club in Turkey.
Gary Lough is a British male former middle-distance runner. He represented his country at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, finishing the 1500 metres final in ninth place. He won 1500 m bronze medals internationally at the 1993 Summer Universiade and the 1994 European Cup. He also participated at the 1994 IAAF World Cup and the 1996 European Cup.
Rosibel García Mina is a Colombian track and field athlete who specialises in middle-distance running events. She has represented her country at the Summer Olympics and has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics.
Seltana Aït Hammou is a Moroccan middle-distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. She represented her country at the 2004 Summer Olympics and has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics and the IAAF World Indoor Championships. She has also been the gold medallist at number of major events including the 2001 Mediterranean Games, the 2003 Military World Games, the 2007 Pan Arab Games and the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie.
Katrina Jane Weston is a former British middle distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres. Competing as Jane Colebrook, she equalled the world indoor best to win at the 1977 European Indoor Championships and won a bronze medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Competing as Jane Finch, she won a silver medal at the 1985 World Indoor Games.

As well as in the 4 × 800 m at the 2017 IAAF World Relays, the 1500m at the 2017 IAAF World Championships and in both events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He also competed for Australia at 2019 World Athletics Championships in the 800 m.
