Nord was a free 3D MMORPG that was playable online and on Facebook by SLX games, [1] which became Skygoblin after their merger with the developer of The Journey Down. [2] Nord was the first virtual world on Facebook that was presented in full 3D. [1]

Release

Nord was originally released online on April 8, 2009. [3] On September 22, 2010, the game was adapted to be played on Facebook. [1] Nord is however running down operations starting in September in preparation for final closure set for December 29, 2013.

Games for Windows – Live or GFWL was an online gaming service used by Games for Windows–branded PC titles that enables Windows PCs to connect to Microsoft's Live service. Users, each with a unique Gamertag, are able to play online, keep track of their friends' status, send and receive messages, gain and keep track of Achievements and associated Gamerscore, voice chat across platforms, and more. Some games allow for cross-platform play, such as Shadowrun, putting Windows players against Xbox 360 players.

Jolt Online Gaming

The company was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area by University of California, Berkeley graduates Ling Xiao and Chris Wang and Swarthmore College graduate Dan Yue. In 2009, the market for games played on social networking sites was valued at $300 million, consisting mostly of online sales of virtual goods.

OMGPop independent game studio later purchased by Zynga

OMGPop, stylised as OMGPOP and formerly known as i'minlikewithyou or iilwy, was an independent flash game studio and as of August 29, 2013, was purchased by Zynga Inc., a casual online multiplayer gaming website built in Adobe Flash.

Call of Duty: Elite

Call of Duty: Elite was an online service created by the Activision subsidiary Beachhead Studios for the multiplayer portion for the first-person shooter video game series Call of Duty. The service featured lifetime statistics across multiple games as well as a multitude of social-networking options. The service previously had a premium subscription option during Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3; however, following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the service was made free. Marvel Avengers Alliance was a turn-based social-network game developed by American studio Offbeat Creations and published by Playdom on March 1, 2012. It was based on characters and storylines published by Marvel Comics, and written by Alex Irvine. The game was available as an Adobe Flash application via the social-networking website Facebook. It officially launched in Facebook at March 1, 2012. It was initially released as promotion for the 2012 Marvel Studios crossover film The Avengers. It won the award for Best Social Game on the G4tv.com Video Game Awards 2012.

Skygoblin

Skygoblin is a Swedish video game developer based in Gothenburg, formed in 2005 as SLX Games. They became Skygoblin in 2011, after they adopted the name used by the development group of the freeware version of The Journey Down.
