North Royalton High School is a public high school located in North Royalton, Ohio, United States, a suburban community in Greater Cleveland. Over 1,000 students attend the school. North Royalton is a member of the National Division of the Suburban League. The school colors are purple and gold and athletic teams are known as the Bears. The school's principal is Kristin Hubbell since 2024.

State championships

The 1979 North Royalton Bears state champion soccer team is the 1st boys’ soccer team in the history of Ohio to finish the season undefeated at 21-0-0. [3]

Band

The North Royalton High School Band Program is the largest student organization on campus with over 200 members. The band program incorporates a competitive corps-style marching band, as well four concert bands: Freshman Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. It also has two jazz bands. The marching band has received a "Superior" rating at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) state finals 35 consecutive times since 1989.[ citation needed ] They have performed at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, The Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, The Indianapolis 500 Parade, the BCS Championship in New Orleans, and many more destinations around the country. David Vitale is the director of bands. [4]

Vocal music

The North Royalton High School vocal music department has had at least one choir since its founding. The oldest performing group is the Concert Choir made up of SATB singers from different grade-levels. In the 1980s, North Royalton expanded to include "Royal Harmony", a competing SATB show choir. In addition to choirs, the vocal music department helps to produce an annual musical each spring. There are currently five choirs: Freshman Choir, Concert Choir, Royaltones (co-ed a cappella), Royal Harmony (co-ed competitive show choir), and the Bearitones (male a cappella).

The Dan Calabrese Center for the Performing Arts

North Royalton High School's performing arts center, The Dan Calabrese Center for the Performing Arts (known as "The PAC"), was built in the mid-1980s and has hosted a number of shows and events since. It has played host to the musicals such as Guys and Dolls , Annie , The Pajama Game , Big Fish , The Music Man , Grease , How to Succeed in Business..., Footloose , Little Shop of Horrors , and West Side Story.

The PAC has also been the home of many events such as the Royalton Rock-Off, which was a benefit concert showcasing a number of student-formed rock bands. Additionally, the annual talent featured such acts as The Villagers, a singing group founded in 1996 that featured a revolving cast of new performers in successive years through 2010.

It was a public high school with open enrollment located across from the Saint Louis County District Courthouse on scenic 5th Avenue. Virginia High School has a strong music department known for the Marching Blues, the school's marching band. The A Capella choir is directed by Matthew Krage. The high school also participates in Minnesota State High School League sports such as hockey, basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, track & field, cross country, baseball, swimming, golf, soccer and wrestling. Despite budget problems in the past decade due to declining enrollment, Virginia Secondary has had success in standardized state testing, graduation rates, and school pride. Enrollment has been at a slow decline for the last few decades but enrollment has been increasing in the lower grade levels, and open enrollment from neighboring districts has brought new students to the school. Students are unofficially divided into grades 7 & 8 and 9-12. The school day consists of 7 periods ranging from 51 to 52 minutes with 3 to 5 minutes passing time allowed. Other Wednesday, students get out of school an hour early to allow for faculty professional development meetings. Junior high students have a closed lunch period between 3rd and 4th hours while grades 9–12 enjoy an open lunch after 4th hour. It now has shut its doors along with Eveleth High School and has moved too Rock Ridge High School. They officially closed on May 31st 2024.
