The North West Australian Football League was an Australian rules football league in north-western New South Wales, featuring teams from towns such as Tamworth, Narrabri, Moree, Gunnedah, Wee Waa, Inverell and Coonabarabran.
The league disbanded after the 1993 season, although Australian rules football was restarted in the area in the late 90s in the form of the Tamworth Australian Football League.
The North West AFL was formed in the late 1970s by the clubs from Tamworth, Moree and Gunnedah, who had played in the New England AFL up until this point. In 1985, the New England AFL, based around the University of New England in Armidale, folded. The remaining NEAFL clubs joined the North West Association.
Due to declines in the local economy, coupled with the large distances between clubs, the league folded in 1993. The resumption of a 12-a-side league in Tamworth, the forerunner of today's Tamworth Australian Football League, saw Australian rules restart in the region two years later in 1995. [1]

Gunnedah is a town in north-eastern New South Wales, Australia and is the seat of the Gunnedah Shire local government area. In the 2016 census the town recorded a population of 9,726. Gunnedah is situated within the Liverpool Plains, a fertile agricultural region, with 80% of the surrounding shire area devoted to farming. The Namoi River flows west then north-west through the town providing water beneficial to agricultural operations in the area.
Quirindi is a small town on the North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, in Liverpool Plains Shire. At the 2016 census, Quirindi had a population of 3,444. It is the nearest link to Gunnedah to the west and Tamworth to the north. The local economy is based on agriculture, with broadacre farming dominant on the black soil plains to the west and livestock grazing in the hilly eastern part of the district.

The AFL North Coast is an Australian rules football competition in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales. Founded in 1982 as The North Coast Australian Football League it merged with the junior league in its area in 2008 and was renamed AFL North Coast.

The North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, refers generally to the area west of the Northern Tablelands, to the north of the Central West region and to the east of the Far West region. Despite its name, the region is in north-central New South Wales, corresponding generally to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's forecast area of North West Slopes and Plains. The administrative areas of the region include the city of Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri and Inverell.
The Anglican Diocese of Armidale is a diocese of the Anglican Church of Australia located in the state of New South Wales. As the Diocese of Grafton and Armidale, it was created by letters patent in 1863. When the Anglican Diocese of Grafton was split off in 1914, the remaining portion was renamed Armidale, retaining its legal continuity and its incumbent bishop.
The Mungindi railway line is a railway line in northern New South Wales, Australia. It branches from the Main North line at Werris Creek station and heads north-west through the towns of Gunnedah and Narrabri before reaching Moree which for many years was the railhead before the extension to Mungindi was constructed. The line is currently truncated to Weemelah between Moree and Mungindi. Passenger trains still operate to Moree, and goods trains operate to Camurra. As of 1 September 2009, services have been suspended between Camurra and Weemelah. The line between Werris Creek and Moree is also known as the North-West line.

AFL North West is an Australian rules football competition in the Tamworth and New England region of New South Wales, Australia. The league began as a "pub competition" in Tamworth in 1997, with four 12-a-side teams, but has since grown to a regional league with six teams based in six towns.
The New England Group 19 Rugby League competition is a Rugby league competition which is run under the auspices of the NSWRL, which absorbed the NSWCRL in 2019. It is based in the New England region. It was originally called the Group 5 Rugby League Premiership but that competition merged with another local competition to form New England Group 19. The competition is generally played on Sundays throughout the winter months, with strong local rivalries as well as inter – town rivalries.
