Northcoast Bus & Coach was an Australian bus bodybuilder in Caloundra.
Northcoast Bus & Coach was formed in 1985 by former GBW employees Wayne Smith and Daryl Wells from premises in Maroochydore. The first body completed was on a former Melbourne-Brighton Bus Lines Leyland Leopard for Bellarine Bus Lines. In 1990, the business moved to Caloundra. [1] [2] [3]
Among some of the larger orders were a batch of Volvo B12Rs for the Australian Defence Force, Scania L113CRLs and L94UBs for Ventura Bus Lines and L94UBs for Metro Tasmania. [3]
In 2010, Northcoast gained a licence to jointly assemble Gemilang Coachworks' Eco Range buses for the Australian and New Zealand markets. [4] Frames were produced in Malaysia, through a joint venture between both companies. The first buses were produced for the Pulitano Group. By 2014, the partnership has ceased when Gemilang gained Australian Design Rules approval for its Malaysian products in its own right. [5]
It ceased manufacturing operations in 2014 having built over 600 bodies, but continues provide support for its products. [3] [6] [7]
Surfside Buslines was an Australian bus operator on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It operated 56 services under contract to the Government of Queensland under the Translink banner. It also operates nine services in the adjoining Tweed Valley of northern New South Wales under contract to the Government of New South Wales. As of 2022, Surfside Buslines has changed its name as part of a business re-brand by the parent company, Kinetic. Surfside Buslines has been dissolved into the Kinetic brand with its fleet of buses reflecting this change. Former Surfside buses are still recognisable through their classic Yellow livery, often simply missing the Surfside logo, with no Kinetic logo either. Kinetic uses these buses more often on services with less passengers and for School bus routes. Kinetic buses are determinable from which state division they are by checking the back of the buses, with a 40 KMPH sign with flashable amber lights indicating NSW, and Queensland indicated by a Children Crossing sign, with flashable amber lights.
