Pressed Metal Corporation South Australia (PMCSA) was an Australian bus bodybuilder based in Royal Park, Adelaide.
The business originally formed as Freighter-Lawton Industries being rebranded Freighter Industries in 1963. [1] It was originally based in Seaton.
In 1975 it was sold to Leyland Australia and rebranded PMCSA moving to a new plant at Royal Park in 1976. [1] In 1991 following the closure of Pressed Metal Corporation in Sydney and the consolidation of operations in Adelaide, PMCSA was renamed PMC Australia. [2] PMCSA was included in the sale of Leyland Australia's (by now renamed JRA Limited) bus businesses to Clifford Corporation in July 1996. [1]
Following the collapse of Clifford Corporation, the plant was sold in 1999 to a consortium of Custom Coaches, Jim Bosnjak and John Hewson and rebranded Australian Bus Manufacturing. [3] [4] Custom Coaches assumed full ownership in 2000. [1] [5]
In the 1980s PMCSA also built the Elwood bus chassis with most being sold to Melbourne operators. [1] [6] [7]
British Leyland was an automotive engineering and manufacturing conglomerate formed in the United Kingdom in 1968 as British Leyland Motor Corporation Ltd (BLMC), following the merger of Leyland Motors and British Motor Holdings. It was partly nationalised in 1975, when the UK government created a holding company called British Leyland, later renamed BL in 1978. It incorporated much of the British-owned motor vehicle industry, which in 1968 had a 40 percent share of the UK car market, with its history going back to 1895.
Surfside Buslines was an Australian bus operator on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It operated 56 services under contract to the Government of Queensland under the TransLink banner. It also operates nine services in the adjoining Tweed Valley of northern New South Wales under contract to the Government of New South Wales. As of 2022 Surfside Buslines has changed its name as part of a business re-brand by the parent company, Kinetic. Surside Buslines has now been dissolved into the Kinetic brand with its fleet of buses reflecting this change.
